I've grown pumpkins to adulthood on my patch of dirt. How do I actually get a pumpkin though? I've tried almost every tool and all I ever get are pumpkin seeds. HELP!
No, just hit the pumpkin block and leave the stem part where it is. Kind of like leaving the bottom piece of sugar cane in the ground so it will grow another pumpkin.
You don't get pumpkin seeds from harvesting pumpkins. You hit the pumpkin with anything, use a torch or hand. Don't hit the stem. Once you have pumpkins, you can take them to a crafting table and turn the pumpkin into more seeds if you want. If you hit the stem, you will get seeds, then you have to replant and start the process over. Just leave the stems and the pumpkins will regrow....probably will grow another as soon as you finish gathering what you have, it's pretty quick.

Whacking the stem drops seeds and wastes time...
