I just made a mob farm. It is awesome. It's just a few block lower than the building height limit, so at night they will only spawn there. When you get to the top, you are in the middle of the monster farm, there are 4 sections, one extending from each side of the large 16x16 glass square.
This means the monsters will spawn immediately, as the sections are 17 blocks away from center, and each section is composed in a checker fashion. The mobs spawn and are instantly stuck and cannot move anywhere.
That's where I come in...with my looting 3 sword, and safely kill the creepers, while the skeletons/endermen/zombies are stuck. The spiders spawn, but under the glass, making it possible to kill them w bow and arrow.
It's quite a place. I need to post some videos
Since I've made it, I've accumilated nearly 4 stacks of gun powder without having to go hunt in open areas where all types of monsters run free. It took me about 3-4 hours to make.
