I can also verify that the lighting issue described occurs in the TU8 tutorial world. While busting out hidden rooms in the castle, several blocks went almost completely black as I removed adjacent blocks when they should have gotten lighter due to light from the adjacent room. I had to re-update these blocks, generally by placing torches on them and then removing the torches, before they would properly indicate the light level in that area. I do find this lighting issue very frustrating and also very hard on my eyes.

Running into the lighting issue, but perhaps the fact that it's a 1.6 world using the classic 404 seed is the problem. Haven't had too many lag issues, aside from having too many item frames in one place perhaps.
The lighting issue is easily visible on every world. It is visible even in daylight but harder to see. Online/offline, SP/MP does not matter. Nor does seed matter to this issue. It is extremely common below 20, but it will happen at any level on occasion. Seed does not matter, spend more than 2 seconds looking or deleting. Worlds before or generated after TU9 does not matter. Even the tutorial world has this problem. This is not something unique to a world. You should actually read the reports in the bug report thread and check before deleting them. This bug has a level of commonality that it should have been caught in unit testing by the developer updating the code, by QA, and in regression. I cannot fathom how it made it past these steps given how common and easy it is to see/find. Especially given how immediately game breaking and noticeable it becomes once one starts doing any mining (silly that one would do that in a game called Minecraft). It is virtually impossible to do anything in the game without noticing or experiencing this bug.
The PO should be yelling at the PM as who should tearing the QA team a new one, who should looking really hard at whomever the responsible parties were for lighting regression. There is no way this could have been 'missed'. This is major fail bad. I would be very interested in 4J publishing the lighting test and regression plan. I guarantee that any such plans if executed would have caught this, or they are very poor test plans which will be exposed and a new team and set of plans is needed.
This reply is very much on topic and more requested information is here.
Do you need the Tutorial world seed or is it sufficient to say Play Tutorial?
I am seriously asking that question since 4J is trying to act like they have no prior knowledge of this very major bug. If 4J have no prior knowledge of this bug then 4J could not have played/tested the game, therefore 4J may indeed need the Tutorial world seed or be told anyone can just click Play Tutorial.
Here is the fourth post right in the Bug Thread that gives an exact location in the Tutorial world. Easily confirmed, just did it myself. The issue is much more visible at night. Although, any time walking around will find other easily visible spots within moments (brewing room {an area that should have been visited based on TU changing QTY here; so double missed the lighting bug here}, library has many, stairs to upper bedroom has one block, etc, etc). Really one does not even need to leave the starting area if one waits till night (or look closely during the day) as the water/redstone lever area will show the issue just fine (that is how quickly and immediately noticeable this bug is).
Ive been scanning around forums and twitter doing searches for @4jstudios and i have found a possible reason to the FPS issues in the end.
Most of the seeds i have seen and tested myself online/offline have this issue and have the same issue of the island being on the edge of the build-able area. My test world has the end stone completely cut off cause the area cut off cant be built on. It is as if the end island is not center to the build-able area. Cause of this lag seems to be created.
This is all just a theory but without tools i cant verify this at all. Hope this helps ya 4JSteve cause its all i can figure.

The end worked fine except that it spawned us off of the end blocks and when ether I'm in my friends world or their in mine anyone who isn't the host will get the lighting bug so some of my friends have to exit and go back in a lot.
Haven't actually messed with The End up until now, so I cannot say if the bugs exist for me or not.
The lighting issues, however, are encountered in every seed. I have created 11 new seeds since the update was installed, and in each of them I encounter the lighting bug. I have also confirmed this with two friends across 4 separate seeds they host.
I've experience the lag online silver and I am now comparing gold.
In Silver online I experienced much lag on seed# 8094306707814283430 and I didn't really pay attention to lighting issue I was more focused on the TNT. However I went ahead and bought a 3 month prepaid gold card today and played the same seed online with gold and found there was no TNT lag. I'm not sure if this is consequtive or just another Silver glitch but it may be something to consider?
I was playing offline and the seed is 2312469120073051297. I had the lighting problem, but this seemed to happen on every world thatI played on. Even on the tutorial world there was a lighting problem. The end is fine.
"Lighting issues with certain worlds"
This is a joke, right? April Fools is long over. Do you honestly need a seed reference? Okay, I'll play along - here's a seed. EVERY seed. New. Old. It doesn't matter. The lighting glitches are totally game breaking. In fact, my friends and I have given up trying to play this game together since they're worse in online MP.
I'm totally dumb founded as to how this could have gone through bug testing/fixing and then through MS Certification since it's such a widespread and blatantly obvious problem. My friends and I were able to experience this wonderful glitch within a minor period of time and you've had how long to bug test/fix this?
Am I frustrated? You bet. This has to be the worst title update released for this game. The part the really grinds my gears is the fact that we'll have to wait for some indeterminate amount of time before we can play together again.

Just following up with my Question to 4J (can you answer 4JSteve?):
Do you need the seed for the Tutorial world?
Can I just say "Play Tutorial" as a sufficient description of that world?
Just in case here is the seed FOR YOUR TUTORIAL WORLD!: 96414766889474996 WARNING: Although this will not have the areas described if you enter just the seed.
Let me re-iterate, if you enter the seed alone you will not find the areas described.
(It is sad that I have to do this but with 4J's deceitful posturing it is unclear if they know how to use their own game).
DO NOT USE THE SEED!
CLICK THE PLAY TUTORIAL BUTTON!
I want that to be clear so you understand it is in the version of that world that 4J already worked, and visible there where 4J should have been walking around and checking their changes anyway.
So again I must ask, is it OK to say "Play Tutorial" for a world example for your teams?
You want a very quick check. Start game, Click Play Tutorial. Wait for game to load. Press B to Skip Tutorial. Press A 4 times to continue through the prompts. Walk to redstone/piston area chest. Press B to skip redstone tutorial. While facing the chest knock the right torch off the wood. Notice the ground in the area, especially on the right side of the grass get much lighter. Or go over to where one would exit towards the castle and look at the 2 torches. That is not a different colored wood under them, knock a torch off and watch that wood light up, then replace and watch the other light up. That is how quickly one can see this bug in action to a minor degree and that is during heavy daylight. Another easy to see in full daylight: go to 102,70,243 and look at the torches on the Sandstone.

I have to assume they are being serious. Otherwise the only answer is that they didn't even boot the game for more than a few moments after changing the lighting. They clearly did not check areas of the Tutorial world they should have been checking based on changes in those areas. If they had been walking around and checking the changes they made in the Tutorial World they would have noticed it as almost every area they changed has at least 1 example visible.
The lighting issues are clearly and have been from the instant the TU came out not a seed related issue. That kind of deceitful posturing is unacceptable. 4J needs to explain what happened with regards to the lighting issue as that one is very immediately a game breaker that is very visible. After that, 4J also needs to apologize for the attempts at FUD with asking for seeds in regards to the lighting issues. The lighting issue is visible on 4J's own tutorial world as 4J was made aware of right away.
There needs to be fall-out on that one. The QA team or the management, someone is at fault here. I doubt the QA team missed it. Therefore either QA failed in their job of communicating the priority of this issue, or management chose to publish a very broken release.
EDIT: Added pictures in case your teams have trouble finding the problems as described and immediately visible upon loading and walking in the spawn area of the Tutorial world.
I'm getting realy bad lighting glitches. When I remove a block, the lighting doesn't update at all making strip mining impossible.
Seed: 1296764047
Edit: This is ridiculous. Deleting TU9 until a fix comes
Edit Edit: . Deleting the update made me lose my enchanting table and all my enchantments on my weapons, along with everything else in TU8. Guess I won't be playing Minecraft until the bug fix comes.

I have not done any exploring on other worlds to determine if this happens.
Havent checked my other maps yet - I'll post when I do.
