I have a seed that has apparently spawned only one stronghold. I've thrown eyes of ender from every corner of the map, and even made a separate save in creative to see if I could locate another, only to find this one lonely stronghold. However, it's dead empty. No chests. No end portal room, not even libraries. I've searched every corner of it, and even excavated entirely around it to see if it was interrupted by a ravine or some other generated structure. My question is, has anyone else found an end portal in a survival game? Or have you experienced the same event I have? I'm assuming that this is all in the realm of possibility, and that I simply have to start over again with a new seed, but I'm hoping it won't come to that. I also don't want to edit a portal in with creative mode, it, just doesn't feel right.
Any information, thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated, I'm just trying to get a better picture of strongholds and how they function on the 360 version.
Mine has a portal........ and if the Eyes of Ender are reacting that means that there is an End Portal there.. if they go nowhere when you throw them, then there would be none.. From my understanding they don't lead you to the stronghold but to the End Portal.
And I'm sure there are many instances where a stronghold can be generated without an End Portal.
on the 360, there is only a single generated stronghold per seed. I've found one where the end portal got spawned outside the edge of the map, so that may be your case (you can throw the eyes of ender, but they fly outside the map then just get "hung" up outside it, looking back at you.) so unless you add the frame in from creative, you're SOL in that specific seed.
Ender Pearls are necessary to craft Eyes of Ender, which are used to locate strongholds and activate End Portals.
seems to contradict itself here:
They are used as an aid in finding the End Portal by leading the player to an End Portal block inside of aStronghold by right-clicking while it is in your hand, which will throw the Eye of Ender in the direction of the closest End Portal Frame.

the eyes of ender floats to the end portal so you might have missed it
keep looking.. dig thru walls, ceilings and under floors.. i have seen secret rooms in strongholds that are only accessible by knocking down a wall since the stronghold generation can get a little funky

What he said... i looked all thru mine and didn't find it.. my 6yr old actually found it right behind a normal smooth stone wall when he was messing around as i was stripping it for cracked and mossy brick.
But again the eyes lead you to the portal not the stronghold. So surely you have one.

Thank you all for your prompt and helpful input, it's greatly appreciated. I'm going to give it another go, excavate some more, see if that portal isn't hiding somewhere in there. If there's anything I can do for you guys, just let me know.
What the others said, also, if you go into creative even just to find where the eye lands exactly, and just dont save; the eye will land on the surface exactly where and end block is, so digging straight down will guarantee you end up at one.
I'm not completely convinced that it is always the case tht the Eyes of Ender always lead a person to a point directly above the portal.I have generated several worlds, all with strongholds and all with intact end portals in them. However, although I've always dug straight down from where the Eyes have landed, they haven't always brought me to a place right over the portal. In fact, on a couple of occasions, I dug straight down to bedrock without spotting stone brick at all and have had to move over a few blocks sideways to find the stronghold itself.

no way man my eyes of ender always lead me to a library for some reason ,usualy not even close to the portal ,and I have even had the eyes lead to a stronghold with no end portal, many times I ended up excavating HUGE areas to find it in creative with nothing there

Red sky at night, sailor's delight.Red sky at morning, sailor take warning
My current seed has this same problem. Loaded it up in creative, threw the eye until it stopped moving, and dug straight down. Got all the way to bedrock, excavated twenty to thirty blocks in all directions, even cleared it out all the way back up to the surface. Found one half formed room and one that was completely encased in stone. No portal, not even a hint of a frame. And it's nowhere near the edge of the world. If anybody wants to give it a go, the seed name I used was: Jessica
You can also use the x-ray glitch using two pistons, two blocks of TNT, and a lever to see through the ground. You can see through the ground by going in third person mode sometimes, but it's much more difficult that way. I was frustrated in finding an abandoned mineshaft with melon seeds and the TNT/piston trick helped immensely in creative using the same seed.

Not sure if you're still searching, but I tried out Jessica as a seed. Found the end portal at x-2 y47 z28.

We eventually found it (using the x-ray glitch). Completely encased in stone and surrounded by a lava lake quite some distance away from where the pearl led us to. Since TU9 went live though, the same seed generates a completely intact stronghold instead of the broken half formed one we had on TU8. Thanks for the help anyways
