I have created a world and spent a lot of time building. I built a portat but have never ventured into the Nether. So my question is, has the nether already been created or not. I wasn't sure since I haven't been there yet. The reason I ask is because I wanted to know if I will need to reset the nether on Friday when the update is released,
From what I know, it was made with the world, so explored or not, it set there.
I'd say you should rip out as much Glowstone and mushrooms as you can and then reset it.

The nether should have been generated right when the world was created. If you created your world after nether fortresses were put into the game, then you may not have to reset it.... just go into the nether and check to see if you can find your fortress, blaze spawners, and netherwart. If they are all there, then a new nether will not offer you anything more... it just might move the fortress to a different location and cause netherwart to spawn into the nether in random locations outside of the fortress. If your old nether has even one netherwart garden in the fortress, you could just plant the seeds wherever you like on soul sand.
As Phoenix suggested, if you don't find a fortress with blaze spawners and netherwart, I would perhaps go ahead and raid that nether for glowstone (and perhaps netherbrick and netherrack) AND count on resetting it after the update comes out. If it does have the fortress, blaze spawners, and netherwart, I would just count of using that nether and not resetting it at all. Keep in mind tht we don't yet know whether resetting the nether will be like creative mode and disable the world from the leaderboards and achievements.
