I'll say this.
Is it Nerdy, define nerdy
I miself play this game, Wow, heck I'll even get together with some friendos can we start tossing dice and playing D&D.
Do I call my self a nerd. No, why? because lables are stupid/
Even when you master the game and can build a Sanitarium in the neather on hard with no armor on in hardcore survival with your eyes closed. That just means your ungodly at the game.
There is not a consistent meaning of nerd and geek. All people seem to have their own ideas for it. Dork seems to be the main word people who considers themselves to be a nerd or geek don't like. If you take the show "The Big Bang Theory", those characters are represented as typical geeks or nerds, but its only stereotypical. Me and my friends who are getting degrees in physics always joke about whose who in the show. However, none of else actually hold all characteristics and are not cowards and wimpy.
Personally, I like Math, Basketball, Art, Football, First shooter games, zombie fighting games, the walking Dead, and Science. I play all kinds of games and I play basketball. In high school I wasn't considered nerdy or a jock or gothic. I was just me. Recently, I came across someone who is still trying to relieve his high school football days. Thinks he is big stuff, strong, and can intimidate others. He still plays video games though, still likes all the marvel movies and batman movies that are coming out. Those are things typical of geeks and nerds. But he wouldn't play minecraft or post on these forums. Minecraft is for geeks and nerds, I'm one, oh and I Got the girl!

Im gonna start by saying this:
Math , Science, History, Embedded in the mystery and it all started with a big bang. ( I probally screwed up somewhere.. i go over to a friendo's house every so often and watch his DVDs with em)
But serious Im a guy who is a Avid Wow player, enjoys playing games like Dragon age and Skyrim, and I even play Table top D&D with teh guys.. and I love Minecraft. So my offically answer to the topic is this:
Doctor Who is the geekiest show on TV and David was a massive fan of it (that is why he want to be an actor), so do not knock being a geek because either one day you become one, or you will work for one.
As was said, there are no nerdy games, only nerdy people. The public just sees certain themes as such because nerds typically enjoy them. What I really wanted to talk about is how you came to the conclusion that you're not a nerd. To add a dose of contrast here, let me explain a bit about myself. First and foremost, I would classify myself as a geek, and I always have been. However, I never hung out with the nerds at school, I never played D&D, and I certainly have never wore glasses or a pocket protector. I was actually a part of the rebellious partying crowd. Drank just about every weekend, smoked some weed from time to time, etc. Over time that escalated to a point where you wouldn't even believe me if I showed you the inventory paper I did in treatment. In case you don't know what that is, in rehab they make you fill out a sheet listing every drug you've ever done, how long you were using, and the frequency of usage. I won't bore you with the details but, just for the shock factor, I'll have you know that dope was on that list. And I don't mean dope as in the word that 60 year olds use for weed, I mean dope as in meth. I also never had a problem with the ladies, (at least not when it came to getting them) something else seen as uncommon for a stereotypical nerd. There was a time when I used to utilize my charisma for personal gain, by manipulating people. For example, there was rarely an extensive period of time where I wasn't cheating on a girlfriend. Even more rarely was when one would find out. I would always have some sort of story ready, and even when they would find out they would never leave. By that point, I would have toyed with their minds to the point of infatuation. I'm not proud of it, especially how I used people, but that's just a small part of my life that most would never expect from a "nerd". And now it is being publicly displayed on the internet. Yay.
No. All ages play it and just about everyone that sees it wants to play it. I even had a friend who had never played a computer game who wanted to play it

Come check out my channel I frequently post and I upload Minecraft minigames, survival, etc.
nerd is defined as being super absorbed in a a sub culture. you being a jock makes you a sports nerd.
and why does playing a sport make you not nerdy. and why is nerdy not cool. nerd/geek is the new mainstream culture. cosplay is seen as awesome. video game news is more important than most sporting news. most of the top movies of the past jeez. few decades have been related to geek society, think of all the comic book movies.
hell i played magic the gathering and video games in high school. and the closet i got to playing foot ball was kicking the crap out of a few guys from the team. lol. so much for their weak nerd stereotype. i had loads of crazy friends, and partied, i was relatively popular. people still recognize me from years ago and run up to me..... and there are so many people who are part of the geek culture, some really hot chicks too, in fact way hotter chicks than any preppy girl ive ever met.
and really its to the point were cultures have melted together so there's really no point stereotyping, think about fantasy football, thats full on nerd, that's like a football rpg. lol
to answer your question. you are a nerd. and minecraft is a nerdy game... the first step is admiting your a nerd. the next step is realizing. no one cares.
Yesterday I was on my way to class, when a black cat fell from the sky. I didn't really know what that nonsense was about so I asked him if I could step around him because he was bad luck, but he simply meowed and then disappeared. I was a bit worried that maybe he'd teleported to Afghanistan or somewhere equally dangerous, but a wizard came and assured me that it was alright. I threw my Zune at him because I was 78% sure he was lying. The wizard roared at me and sentenced my mother to thirty five years of chain smoking. I was sad.

hey. dont hate on d&d style pad and paper rps... i met some very lovely ladies in an rp group... without being to blatant, lets just say it was a very productive group raid and we all came out of it with a lot of XP. lol.
we've all made bad decisions bro. sex drug rock and roll. i sang and played guitar was in a few bands. i had that punk artsy thing goin for me. always drawing, painting. writing girls songs... they ate it up to. once cheated on a girl... with her sis. while she was sleeping in the next room. yea. like i said man. we all make mistakes just gotta rise above and learn from the past.
jeez. when did the minecraft forum turn into a group therapy session... look what youve done OP. lol

I don't have anything against D&D really, I just never got into tabletop RPGs. I kind of hid my nerdiness from the people I knew in real life. Hell, I play roguelikes which are very similar to tabletops, (though more limited) a lot are even based on D&D. That does sound pretty tempting though... dungeon crawl followed by an orgy. lol

I took the douchebag approach; not even sure how or why it worked. My current girlfriend is the first one I've done anything nice for, simply out of kindness. I was more focused on the drugs back then though, I really loved stimulants. Smoking dope makes you feel like a machine. It's so much easier to put your own thoughts together, you feel as if you have an infinite amount of energy, you don't feel pain or exhaustion. In a way, that's the most dangerous part, and the exact reason why most tweakers look like a prisoner in Auschwitz. You can't burn energy that you don't have, that's when your body starts to deteriorate. That's why I would drink Vitamin Water, Gatorade, take some potassium pills, eat a few protein bars. It's really difficult to do though; protein bars already taste pretty bad, and stimulants make you feel as if eating is unnecessary. The first time I forced myself to eat on it, it took 20 minutes to eat a slice of bread.
I personally don't think so because me and my friends all play but we all play football, basketball, ect. I am not a nerd however I still play minecraft. What do you guys think?
I really hate people like you, it doesn't matter if it is or isn't. And why would you playing sports have to do with a video game is "nerdy" or not. Social lives shouldn't depend on what other people think, if you think it will damage your "popularity" then that's your problem, not ours. Again, do not let other people stop you from doing something you enjoy to do.
I am not trying to be mean, but just, pay attention to my last sentence. (Besides this one :P)

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.

i know what you mean.never touched meth. my thing was prescription pills, id get that same feeling of untiring focus like my mind was on overdrive and since ive got ADD that was a huge draw for me.
i had a knife drawn on me that was a big wake up call. a tweaker who knew a girl i was talkin to. still got a scar on my hand, he was so juiced i had to almost beat him to death to get him to stop trying to stab me. my hand was so broken i had to start hitting him with my elbows.
I like the juxtaposition of drugged-up "bad-azness" within an "Is Minecraft Nerdy?" thread.
This coming from someone who lives in the Altered State of Druggachuchettes.
Oh, and who plays Minecraft for hours on end.
hmm, not really what i was going for. lol. more or less i just think perception of what is nerdy and who is a nerd is really in the eye of the beholder. but it's usually a false impression since you really cant stereotype people, we do label of course but we treat those labels like they actually mean something or define someone when in fact they do not. cause more often than not when you take a closer look perception is shattered. plus. drugs are bad mmkay. lol. i think people are far too complex to place in some narrow field of view. to quote Shrek. we are like onions we have many layers. one layer may be a nerdy side. then the next may completely obliterate that singular idea. though i may be philosophizing a little too much and over analyzing i have a habit of doing that.
i love the game. and can play it for hours myself when i have the time. its one of those things that truly zens me out. i love to create and share and im really fond of the community, there are some really talented builders and creative people here. and generally some really cool people too.
