It just depends on who you are talking to. I love Minecraft. If you ask some of the people I'm friends with, they would say its a stupid game and then say that Call of Duty is where it's at. Some people just have different tastes in games.

Yeah, but overall I don't think Minecraft is a nerd game.

Nerd (n): An intelligent, single-minded expert in a particular technical discipline or profession.
You can be a nerd at anything. If you have an extremely in depth knowledge of Football, you're a nerd. John Madden is technically a nerd. Michael Jordan is a nerd. Etc, etc. Nerd doesn't just mean something related to or having to do with video games or computers. Anyone can be a nerd because they don't have to be a gamer to be one.
I honestly get a little offended when people use the term in a derogatory manner. Like it's some kind of bad thing to be.
It really depends on the playstyle of the guy with the controller. In my case, Minecraft is one of the nerdiest games in history.
As for semantics, I don't know the facts, but here is my take on it. When I hear the word nerd, I think of someone who obsesses over more educational subject. For example, the stereotypical math/science/computer nerd you see on t.v. When I think of a "geek" I picture someone who obsesses over more trivial things, like videogames. I imagine the morbidly obese WoW player who dropped out of school to play more often. However, there is a large gray area between those two extremes, which I think most of us are within.
Minecraft is a mix between a survival/RPG/sandbox/building game. So, to give you a simple answer I'd say yes. The game can get very nerdy when it comes to redstone, enchanting, weapons, etc.
Absolutely not, Minecraft is an amazing constructing game where the possibilities are endless. I don't find it nerdy at all, the same as Call of Duty or Viva Pinata isn't nerdy. They are just games and we are gamers, not Nerds, not that anything is wrong with that.
I would like to ask why you think the fact that you play sports doesn't make you a nerd? Sure back in the 1980s maybe playing sports would but nowadays it's different.

Hank, when people call people nerds, mostly what they’re saying is ‘you like stuff.’ Which is just not a good insult at all. Like, ‘you are too enthusiastic about the miracle of human consciousness’.” -John Green
Nerdy is just a label put on minecraft by people that don't understand and would rather play FPS all the time.
I don't like top view strategy games because I suck bad at them.
Every other game I seem to like enough.
I wouldn't consider myself a nerd because I play minecraft.
But if you meet the stereotypes of an obsessive person like myself then yes you could.
Things like following 4J and notch on twitter, aswell as Bohemia interactive, Bethesda, Dice and Skyrim trolls.

It has the potential to be depending on how hardcore you play it or what you play it for like if you run an rpg world or play on one and enjoy it now thats nerdy like crazy.
Huh? I feel like a lot of the people saying it's "nerdy" are the people in real life who are like;
"omg i'm so nerdy n' quirky lol! *holds up spork* i'm so random omg dont h8 me cuz im difrent1!"
Anyone can play whatever game they want.
OMG brosive don't hate cause I'm different..... all jokes aside I'm a nerd with a sense of still and a silver tongue like no other and a spontaneous attitude towards anything.... and I do pull out random stuff like a spork and act like its an accomplishment. Minecraft has to potential to be a nerdy game, but that's a good thing to me
Well it has a dragon, the primary weapons are swords and bows, I'd say so. But it doesn't matter until you can no longer get a girlfriend over it. If it starts ruining your love life, then you have an issue.
Yeah, but overall I don't think Minecraft is a nerd game.
They are the Non-believers! If Minecraft ever came to an end (which would never happen), the terrorists would win!!!!

it's nerdy.
however, you seem to be implying that there is something wrong with being a nerd?
what are your alternatives? jock, emo, indie, etc.
IMO, being a nerd trumps all other subcultures you could affiliate yourself with.
I've actually considered buying a titanium spork... just because i can... (it's either that, or canned unicorn meat)

Majority of people who label somebody "nerd" or and insult have more negative qualities than the person their insulting.
