I personally don't think so because me and my friends all play but we all play football, basketball, ect. I am not a nerd however I still play minecraft. What do you guys think?
Even though i have a life with friends and playing sports. The only thing that I ever nerded out on was minecraft, that's the only reason I'm on the forum, or check the wki every day. I know almost everything about the pc version and I don't have it.You are not a nerd because you play minecraft, but you can become a nerd because you play minecraft.
Not the way I play it... I'm too hardcore.. I place my redstone dust down with authority and when the device doesn't work I don't just break it apart I rig it to blow!

You play Minecraft. You have an Xbox 360. You're on the forum for Minecraft. You're a nerd. Just because you play sports doesn't all of a sudden absolve you from being a nerd
Considering how worldy popular the game is, I wouldn't label anyone a nerd for playing it. However, if you play it, know everything about it and check the forums everyday even though the useless posts. You're probably a nerd. Cause I just described myself.
A lot of people stereotype what nerd means, they picture someone with glasses who is smart or some crap. I know some cool smart people with glasses that are really into metal music/violence and advanced in martial arts, are they a nerd? Not at all if you go by what people normally assume it is like. Being a nerd means you are really into a certain thing, Bruce Lee was a martial arts nerd, justin bieber is a nerd for his music, people that kill animals a lot are hunting nerds. People that label and insult are just bullies who want to take the attention off them and put someone else down to feel better about themselves.
Honestly who cares what they think, it just shows they're rude and one day they will be that way to the wrong person and be humbled. Minecraft is about survival/building/farming/crafting, kind of sounds like what life is about so then does that mean life is nerdy? At the end of the day, if you have good friends and enjoy life while having fun then don't worry about some buzz kill speaking a narrow minded opinion. Minecraft is pretty good for a casual game, I would rather wind down playing it after a long day than watch reruns on tv.
Lol....mustache guy.....always a pleasure to read..... I think you guys have your definitions crossed...atleast in my eyes...nerds are smart they know stuff worthy of Nobel peace prizes and history and we are kind friends is GEEKS =] a geek knows technology is up to date with old movies eats junk food and only information a geek knows is only vital to those who play his games (forums) be a geek...be proud
The word nerd does not mean now what it classically means. It means a gamer that is also smart and enjoys school. Just because you play sports doesn't mean you automatically aren't a nerd.
You have your dork, the lowest form, who knows a little about most things, but nothing too detailed.
You then have your Nerd, who excels at a certain area, but still has the dork quality.
Finally you have your geek, who has a massive amount of knowledge on 4 or more subjects (i.e. i, myself, have a massive amount of knowledge on sharks, D&D (1st or 2nd edition, with some from the 3.5 module Eberron), Fantasy novels (the way they are written, and how the authors tend to progress their stories following a few basic templates, that they can modify to their needs. Plus i can spout specifics, and facts on 4-5 different fantasy series by different authors (the late Robert Jordan, Terry Brooks, R. A. Salvatore, and a series done by both Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman) and of course, i'm gradually expanding my knowledge of Minecraft (i just need to start working on redstone, i'm fairly competent about the rest of the game). There are other things, like specific "lore" pertaining to an MMO i mentioned earlier in this thread, but unless you have played that game (or are interested in it), and PM me, i won't bore the rest of the forum members with it.)
Well yes, but:
1.Just because you play sports doesn't all of a sudden absolve you from being a nerd and 2.Being a nerd means you are really into a certain thing, Bruce Lee was a martial arts nerd, justin bieber is a nerd for his music, people that kill animals a lot are hunting nerds.

'You hate me, I hate me, now why can't we just hate me over a cup of coffee?'
Yep, that's kinda why I wasn't interested in it a couple of years ago when my friend was talking about it. It seemed TOO nerdy to me at the time, but when another friend actually started it up on my xbox last spring I was addicted. But I'm a nerdy person even without Minecraft, so it didn't change much.
I don't think it's nerdy. Why is it different to play Minecraft or Call of Duty? Minecraft has mobs, swords, bows, ect. It isn't just about placing blocks. (Unless your in Creative)...

There's alot of labels between a nerd and jock. For example, if one was an NFL announcer, they wouldn't be a jock, but they wouldn't exactly be a nerd either; or same if someone played lots of sports, but in the end of the day goes to play Minecraft.
Ugh, are we really arguing semantics? I'll keep this simple: I think the problem is that it has a reputation for being a nerdy game, but it really isn't. Of course, you can make it nerdy if you obsess on the forum, have far too extensive knowledge of redstone, etc, but that goes for any game.

Retired StaffAnd there ain't a single thing wrong with that. Nerd power! B]
Keep yourself up to date with the Minecraft Forum rules!
Games are games. The goal is to have fun. You don't need to label.
But yes, Minecraft is a nerd game.
Two out of three....
