What do you think?
Every forum I've ever been on the game devs hardly ever post.
They've said before they're always watching.
But I'd like it when they voice their own options and let the community what the devs as a whole are thinking and working on.
I make an effort to come on every day and it feels like my time is being wasted, things I'm saying and vouching for are being looked over and that the forums are just here to keep the community happy and not for the ideas to be taken in by 4J.
I respect that game devs are very busy people, have lives of their own and not every idea somebody suggests could be added with the click of a finger but still.
I have brought this up a couple times and always get the "we do post" and "we read everything keep posting more" which to me just seems like a brush off
Here is a conversation i had
ME
Hello i messaging you about the 360 request thread which keeps growing larger and larger can you get someone to make a pinned version also maybe edit the request list down to the ideas that 4j studios is considering and it could be updated every 2 weeks or something
I ask because we are lobbing tons of ideas into the pot yet we hear nothing except when someone like me posts asking if 4j is even reading the stuff we are posting
I and i think many others would like to see feedback other then "great ideas keep posting"
I'm not trying to be a pain or make more work for you i just think people on the forum would like to see you guys/girls come out of the shadows more often and give us feedback on the direction the game is going in
4J
We have posted in the suggestion thread quite a few times saying about good ideas and have made it clearly we keep an eye on it.
Yes I'd like them to be more specific about what they're liking aswell.
Put an end to that gun debate etc.
Most of us are grown up enough to understand that some things just aren't the best for minecraft.
We will get over the hurt.

Uh, anyhow, I'm not really sure.
I havem't seen too-too many posts by them, but that doesn't mean they don't see us.
(I've lurked around a lot myself, so they very well may do the same.)
Who knows, they may shock us one update with unannounced ambience or coloured Lapis blocks~
4J post -> followed by hundreds of people going "When is the update coming out?" "What are you guys adding?" "What is your favorite idea?""How long does the update take?""When are we getting this?""When are we getting that?"
I don't blame them for not posting much on here other than on a need to know basis really. I can't image how badly their twitter gets spammed by people. Hence the need for them to make posts on twitter saying for people to cool down.

I find your post sub standard because it doesn't not make reference to my needs...
But seriously
How often do you tell people those things?
Why should you spend your time answering those questions and then whenever you want to know if 4J supports what your doing you receive nothing?
The occasional post making references to actual people's ideas and what they've noticed us talking about wouldn't go amiss.

The PC version is quite community driven, and we're spoiled rotten by that. (But Jeb doesn't post that much in the PC section either, does he?)
However, I feel that the xbox version isn't community driven, per se. 4J already has the next few updates, and what is (and isn't) going to be in them, already planned out… and pretty much set in stone. We can throw out our Super Ideas all day, but if it doesn't fit The Plan, it ain't happening. Of course they look at our posts, but that doesn't mean they can, or even should, implement them.
"Here's my Super Idea!"
"Sorry, we can't do that."
"Why not?"
(Then the argument starts and goes on and on…)
As for updates, I don't see Jeb forecasting when the next update is coming out either, at least till it's almost done. 4J doesn't have the luxury of coming out with "snapshots" to test it on us and fine-tune it before an update is "officially" released. 4J doesn't know exactly how long the programming, bug fixing, testing, peer review, certification, etc. is gonna take. So as much as we'd like to know "When's the next update coming out?" (like knowing an exact date does you any good), they just can't tell us.- there's external factors involved that the PC people don't have to deal with.
I agree with the OP that it sucks that "we don't know what's going on", but if we did it would just turn into an argument.
You also have to remember that we here are only a small part of the Big Picture. There's (potentially) 5.9 million other people who voice their opinions too- and they aren't hardcore like most of you are. I think there's a big difference between what direction the user base wants the game to go compared to what the forum members here want it to go.
We hate it, but I think the xbox version just isn't your game that you have control over like the PC one. Besides, 4J has done a good job of giving us some good, needed updates- with more planned (and you'll like them).

Firstly I want to ask why you brought up that release date thing?
Nobody even mentioned it before, was it meant to just be an example?
Then there's the concern of you saying that the user base want different things than the forum members.
When have we ever completely agreed on anything?
With the exception of those really great ideas like ambient noises (and rentable servers hehe), which you kinda have to like.
Then you also can't say that they have the next three updates set in stone because you don't exactly know that for sure.
The next content adding update will probably be TU11 with jungles, ocelots, and maybe trading.
The room for smaller things than those is always there whether its from the forums or not.
And what do we have a pinned thread specifically for?
The time is dawning for 4J to really start thinking about how they could differ their game from the PC.
And why keep going on about something that they've seen a million times and know that they're not going to add.
We may be unhappy about it when we don't get what we want but I feel silly about addressing my ideas to 4J and feel like there's only a brick wall listening... Don't you?
Sorry if there's mistakes Im quite tired.

* I didn't bring up the release date thing- Mustache did.
* The next few updates are kinda "set in stone"- 4J is bringing it up to 1.2. That's a pretty definitive path to me.
* TU11? What happened to TU10?
* I agree that it's time for 4J to start thinking about what happens next. I think that we'll see a few more updates (to get it to 1.2) and after that 4J will pour their energies into MC2 for the new console(s). I would. By the end of the year, we'll know more- no sense worrying about it now.
* Of course I feel like ideas are hitting a brick wall. I haven't posted any for that reason. But I feel that 4J has a notebook stuffed with ideas already and while there is a small chance someone's may get implemented, it's gonna have to be really, really good (like fit in with the xbox-type of MC and not one from the PC version).

as long as they are really checking out the board then thats fine
everytime that 4j steve guy would post something on gamefaqs, there would be 20 or so threads a day popping up asking him update questions or why cant you do this or something else ridiculous
Go have a look at 4JSteve's post history as an example, of course they're not focusing on suggestions right now. It's more important to take care of the bugs that are already in the game than to worry about introducing new content that is likely to bring more glitchiness. Besides, we haven't even made it to the equivalent of MCPC's 1.2.3 yet. It seems that everyone forgot about this at some point. Before 4J even has a chance to deviate from this linear path of updates, they have to be on par with the PC version that was available at MCXBLA's release date. Do you honestly think they're going to bother with suggestions for new features when they still have months of work left for the planned content?
From what I see 4J Steve will only ever post on bug thread saying that they know of glitches.
On an adverage of about once per week.
Even people posting very straightforward things right into his profile have been ignored for months.
If they are only on bugs and the planned updates at the moment then so be it.
But when they hit that 1.2.3 mark I want crazy dev activity on the suggestions forum.
@Geneo the TU11 came from me assuming that TU10 will be a mostly bug fix update like there has been after most big content updates.

Crazy dev activity after our 1.2.3 equivalent may be a lost cause, they probably already have a plan for a couple updates afterwards, if they didn't it'd probably be a lot longer between our 1.2.3 update and the next one. So I think we'll see a bit more activety in the suggestions thread, but not a ton
I'm guessing they only post in suggestions and will only post in suggestions if they're interested in the idea but they have a couple questions about it.
Maybe when we start getting into more xbox exclusives they might post a thread with a bunch of their ideas (and kiori will lock it because it'll be a wishlist, jk jk) and ask the community what they think about these features.
But that's about all I see them doing other than what they do now. Don't forget these are community driven forums and if they post too much or post much more then they'll be the ones driving the threads. That's probably why they don't post in suggestions to keep each thread 100% community driven

0_o Yeah... when they do know of the glitches. There have been times when they couldn't recreate a bug, and Steve asked to see players' worlds in-person. Myself and several other members here have directly helped 4J. You can't get much more involved in the community than that. The only time I have even seen a developer closer to their fanbase would be the small devs like Bay 12, Freehold Entertainment, Thomas Biskup, etc. These teams tend to have less than five members. For example, Bay 12 Games is just two brothers. And Thomas Biskup is a single man, who has developed both ADOM and ADOM II. (Previously known as JADE) The only reason these guys are so involved in the community is because they literally have to be. They don't even have time to test for bugs, let alone be able to spot all of them. They have a ton of players who happily volunteer to beta test each update.
Sorry, I don't think that 4J should have to stroke the ego of everyone who every offers up a suggestion on these forums by posting all the time just to say things like "Gee, that's a great idea" (while thinking to themselves, yeah, that's about the 50th time I've heard almost the exact same idea).
I don't think they should be expected to personally answer and re-answer about every alleged "bug" posted... even when they aren't bugs, but just users who don't really understand how to operate the game or their Xbox... or are users who are just trying to get around the "ownership" of the filesave and botching up their file in the process... or are users that think that if it's different from the PC in any way, shape or form, it must be a bug. I also don't think they should spend all their days explaining and re-explaining to people why the Xbox doesn't have "unlimited' worlds. Then, of course, there are the infamous "when's the next update" questions.
Let's face it, the above covers about 90% of the most common threads/initial posts here; and if everyone expected a personal reply from 4J for that 90%, the answer to the update question would probably have to become "Never." I agree with Mustache_Guy and Geneo; and I think 4J are already doing a good job posting whenever it's really relevant for them to post.
So many ungrateful people, keep at it and eventually they will say "we don't HAVE to be awesome, you're spoiled, no more free updates". Is it weird that I look forward to that?
I 'd like more involvment with community less lurking in the shadows
I imagine there would be a lot less questions being asked over and over if everything was out in the open like the updates they could release change logs for all future updates and say we hope to have so & so update completed by this date then there'd be so many less " I wonder when the next update is coming out?" Threads
Also a thread for suggestions or content they thought of and are considering adding to the game so they can get feedback no sense in making something only to find out after all your work the players hated something you added saves them time and money
They don't need to be super active answering every single question and stuff just enough to have a presence I feel it would make some of the community feel less like they are talking to a brick wall
I'm not asking for minute by minute updates but it would be nice to have more then figures lurking in the shadows of the forum
