Ok, I started digging a slime farm a while back only to find out that slimes only spawn in certain chunks. Luckily I hadn't made that big of a room. Anyway I just made a branch mine out of that room. Well today when I was walking down the spiral stairs to get down there, there was a slime on the last block of the stairs. The stairs were on an edge of the room so I thought I might have mined in the wrong direction. I started mining behind the stairs and made another room. Still no slimes. It's not very big but I would think it was big enough to spawn some slimes. Anyway I was walking back up, (these stairs go up to a stronghold) and there was a medium sized slime bouncing around the room that my stairs go up to. This is at layer 25 and there is a slime. I dug staight down below the room and sure enough I fell right into the room that I mined for my slime farm which is at layer 5. So I know I'm digging in the right place, but why are they spawning above my farm? Anybody got an idea?
Where are you standing? They'll only spawn ~24 blocks or more away from you, so if you are staying in the room they won't spawn there, which could explain why they are spawning in the Stronghold room (parts of the room are bound to be 24+ blocks away, since you're on level 5 and the room is on level 25, so that's 20 blocks away right there, and the room is probably larger than 4x4...
Also, when slimes aren't targeting a player and are in an enclosed area, they seem to gravitate towards a corner (my friend said it's the SW corner, but I have no verification). I can't tell you how many times I've walked towards my slime farm to see them all in one corner jumping into the wall like idiots. Perhaps that's how they ended up in your stairs (you did say it was on an edge)?
I would clear out a 16 x 16 area 3 tall where you started your farm (where the x and z coordinates are multiples of 16), and then move 24 blocks away from it and wait a few minutes. My guesses are you got lucky and started clearing out a slime chunk. If not, using coordinates from your map you should be able to figure out which of the adjoining chunks spawns slime.
I,ve never come across slimes untill a few days ago and i know nothing about them but lvl 10-13 ive mined out idk how big the room is maybe 300x300x3 and they were spawning everywhere idk how big the room needs to be but try lvl 10 works for me

I was standing at my house and when I came back down there was nothing there. I just got lucky and found a slime chunk I have no idea where I should dig from there.
Okay in the old days all my friends would tell me that they mostly spawn at bedrock. ( I don't know if it's true today but you could try digging a nice big area and make it 3 high. ) They also told me that you need to have 3 blocks of hieght and have a BIG room they will start spawning a lot more! I promise you that it will most likely work if not contact me I will have to look it up. I hope I helped a little.

slimes spawn at level 40y and below in those specific slime chunks. So if your house is above ground at the 60-70y then it is possible that they might be spawning and despawning rather quickly... if you get more than 32 mobs tend to get more and more likely to despawn. On occasion they will still spawn, but the distance from you and it might be a bit much for what I just mentioned.
That is why you should make another room off to the side that is roughly 24 blocks away, so you would get the most out of that farm. Plus I hope you lit up the area 128 blocks all around that farm. Nothing like a hidden cave unlit causing other mobs to spawn. Slimes have a low chance to spawn in the first place; at least compared to the other mobs.
Well that is my thoughts on the matter...

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Also how far down did you dig? And what are you using for lighting? Slimes can't spawn on bedrock blocks or glowstone. I know alot of people dig down to bedrock and then put glowstone right in their floors which means the only place for slimes to spawn is on the few stone or ore blocks in-between all the bedrock and glowstone

Thanks for the tip on the other room. I was walking around the stronghold room and I want back down and there was one large slime I got really happy because I thought they were fianaly going to start spawning. But then no more spawned after that. And yes I am lighting it up. I am using torches on the walls and floors.
