ok I'll bite .......... I'm a dad who plays minecraft with my daughters, and I have to admit the first time I saw this game I was seriously disappointed in the graphics ,I could not believe that they were interested in something that looked like it was from 1992 especially with how games look and feel today .I also did not understand the content ,it seemed very pointless and I would ask so what am I supposed to do? ,what is the end goal or end of the game? I have since come to realize that minecraft is so much more than just a game ,it is inspiration to creativeness and very challenging especially with the redstone or "electrical wiring" .Many schools are beginning to use minecraft in order to get kids to engage in education with subject based worlds and kids also engage in multi player world creation which teaches teamwork, organization, design, engineering, and project completion. Perhaps your father will never read this but if he does this is to him " Give it a chance ,even if it is just for your son ,I personally cant think of any reason to not spend time with him doing something he likes even if its just a half an hour ,who knows maybe you will like it ,if you are worried about time play creative mode ,its like lego's or lincoln logs ,remember those? .....anyway what have you got lose at worst you spent some time with your kid playing a non violent non shooter game .......RARE this day and age
please consider my opinion

Red sky at night, sailor's delight.Red sky at morning, sailor take warning
My parents feel the same way. mainly my dad though, my mom actually likes the stuff I build. She thinks it's cool. My dad just asks me a lot like "Why are you playing this? It's just like playing with legos?" Oh well. Can't make people like things, just tell your parents it's something you like, and if they aren't gonna take the time to find out why, then that is their fault. May sound disrespectful, but it's like you saying their job looks dumb and you wont try it yourself.
I think there are two things here:
1. You want to share something that you enjoy with your father. You want to include him in one of your hobbies. I, personally, think that is the best reason of all for him to sit down and join you. (Assuming that you aren't playing 16 hours a day and ignoring things like school and sunlight.)
2. As for it being an educational tool... I think that the people that have posted that is is boring and repetitive, they are right. However, that isn't a bad thing. It teaches you that sometimes you have to work for what you want. There is no "instant gratification". You have to plan ahead if you want to build anything more complicated than a dirt hut. Minecraft is literally what you make of it. If you just want to wander around and do nothing, then that is what you will get back. If you want to build a city, you will *have* to work for it. Planning, designing, finding resources, building, redesigning, and fixing.
I have two daughters, aged 3 months and almost 2 years old. I can not wait for the day that they want to play video games with me.
Just my $0.02.
A dad that plays Minecraft here - My teenage sons have been playing it on the computer since the earliest versions were released, and they kept insisting I try it out, but I just wasn't interested.
After they got the Xbox version, I was burnt out from playing Skyrim for months straight and decided to give it a go.
It took a few tries to get me hooked.
I went into the game like the point was just to survive, but soon figured out that the game was about expressing creativity - with a twist.
Want to build a castle up on that mountain? Better get to mining cobblestone, want better weapons and armor so those monsters won't kill you if you happen to get stuck outside at night? Better go find some iron ore to smelt.
What to enchant your weapons armor and tools? Get to killing monsters to build up XP.
Everything you do in the game has an incentive to it - farming to obtain food to keep your hunger bar full, mining to obtain resources to build and make tools/weapons - fighting monsters to get XP for enchantments, using resources to build your castle/fort/town/whatever else.
It's all about creativity and all the various other activities in the game are central to that.
Maybe your father just isn't the creative type - people are different.
I've just recently started playing around with redstone circuits and am even more hooked (I have a degree in electronic engineering and redstone circuits take a lot of their cues from real world solid state electronics).
I think it just has a lot to do with a person's interests and what they like doing - I'm a very creative person with a strong interest in electronics and open world RPGs, so it turns out Minecraft has a lot of entertainment value to me, but it just might not be some people's 'thing'.
What is "mach"? Better stop playing Minecraft and study a bit.
And the other guy was right about Minecraft. Minecraft is cool only the first time you play it and only on Survival. The first couple of nights and days are interesting. After that is boring to death. If you are older that 12 and you play Minecraft, seek professional help.
tl;dr - Your dad is right, Minecraft is boring.
Looks like someone has very little creativity. Hmmm, and judging by your poor writing skills, you also need to study more. Why are you even here?

Yet you're on a minecraft forum.... Please sir, just go.
Tell him he's right and the 6 million people that bought the game found other games too exciting. Besides he probably couldn't even build a house or find diamond if he tried.
or...
say "Yea, mom said you probably couldn't do it anyway."
Dad here as well... But mine was the other way around, I was bored one weekend while the kids were gone and decided to give the tutorial a try. Yeah I bought it as soon as my time ran out on that.
Kids come home and my oldest daughter (7) looks at it and doesn't really care. But as young kids are prone to do, she decides to give it a try when I'm not around, and it's about the only game she's played since. I think it's good because now I finally have a punishment that I can use against her that really makes her work harder. No Minecraft till homework is done, or you read some...
My Mum and Dad hate video games
Maybe their old fashioned and I play them too much.
But I'd like to see them sit down and play it maybe they'd enjoy it.

I am a angel, I shall disperse all demons from you.
I may be a angel, but that doesn't mean I have evil in me.
I'm not like any other angels, I posses all powers you can imagine.
I was just stating people that were awesome and was letting that guy making him think before he posts! People don't think when they type what a shame what this forum has to go through.
