I hate Ravines with a passion...
In Ravines you have a good chance of getting attacked from the upper floor while on the bottom floor.
That's the only place I go to In ravines Is the lowest level. SO many people tell me they like Ravines...Why?
I normally find them In strongholds and Mineshafts so I have no use for them...
(Extra) I Found ravines so Useless I tried to flood one. Didn't work as expected...
I have a love/hate thing with them..... I like em better than caves to an extent because you don't get easily lost.. but! I feel like I have to light every inch of them.. so I wish they implemented my idea of a "Torch Bow" or something to shoot torches that stick to high areas... But yeah.. I don't hate them......

Reminds me of torque bow...
Anyways I find that surprising you like them better than caves. "That Is to an Extent" I Only find myself getting lost In caves Unless the current cave I'm In leads to another cave, So on and so on. I then get lost with a Full inventory

Yeah I always follow the Mob sounds as well.. so I just get lost.. I set entry points and what not.. so eventually I can get back to where I started after caving my way out.. but for the most part.. I can't stick to one cave.. always finding other.. or the damn noises lead me astray.

I don't find them very useful either in that I haven't found a huge amount of ores in one yet. I seem to have much better luck finding ores in caves. However, some of them work fairly well for tree farms and, if you're setting up a base in a cave, it's sort of nice to catch a glimpse of the sky (if it's a ravine open to the surface). Controlling mob spawning can be reasonably simple - just mine the sides of the ravine so that the walls are shear (i.e. go straight up without that infamous ledge of blocks sticking out partway up). That way, the mobs can't spawn up on the walls an will only spawn on the floor of the ravine if you don't have that adequately lit. If you wish, you can flood sections of the floor of the ravine leaving the currents such that they direct any mobs that do spawn into a certain "killing" area.
I just think they look really cool. Like when you're far underground and it's submerged into the land. Just looking down them (specifically when you have bedrock fog on) Looks really cool.
Under ground ones are annoying as all heck, but I like the above ground ones it's nice when you start a world. If you find one you get some iron and coal pretty easy.

The only appeal for me is having all that area exposed with quick access to resources. I find that if I go down into a ravine, I'll stop on the ledge first. Light that up to keep stuff from spawning. Then work my way down.

I like it when mobs rain down to their deaths. I saw a pack of zombies rain from the upper floor and just die. My favorite is hearing the quick Tss behind me of a creeper falling to it's death.
Hmmm...This surprises me no one has said anything about ravines helping them obtain ores...
I Can see why though (Hasn't helped me very much)
I Guess when trying to obtain ores of such ~Iron, ~Coal, Gold~ so on, That It becomes hard to get In ravines. That Is unless you find an open cave Inside that ravine.

When you collect Iron and the other ores, Do you really go out your way to make some sort of annoying path to reaching the ores? (This Is another reason I don't go out my way bothering with Ravines)

Ladders, dirt, sand, water. All easy ways of reaching them.
Really not that much of a hassle. Especially for important ores like Coal and Iron.

Simple problem solver I guess.
I am an Inventory hog though, Making such path ways and not mining It back Into my inventory Is something I just can't tolerate.
I like them, think my favorite one has been one I found that at the very end it's connected to another one forming a V shape. You can't tell the 2nd one is there till you get to the very end. The best thing about it is where the join it has a decent amount of gold , iron and coal.
I also have one that slimes just love to spawn in the bottom of it.
oo also forgot the two that run right through my stronghold, luckily enough they missed the end portal!

I hate when that happens. I wish we could place a water block next to another water block.

Its easy to cross and stand on higher levels of a ravine but its a pain having to walk on the lowest floor
As for the flooding, simply cover the top of the ravine with blocks, flood the flat top, and then mine out the blocks you palced.
Stay fluffy~

Either way, they're a great place to build some cool stuff and they're a great source of resources early in a world.

I'm quite the opposite...which is why I have 72 stacks of coal and 3 stacks of iron blocks....
