So...I realise this has probably been asked may times before and I apologise.
When I start a map I always make my way to the bottom corener and set up base from there. This leaves the large majority of my map unexplored.
I beleive the terrain auto-generates at the point you explore it. I have used this method to start maps in TU7 and TU8 (leaving most of the map unexplored.)
My questions then:
- When TU9 is released and I explore some more of my TU7 or TU8 map, will it autogenerate with TU9 updates?
And secondly:
- If I had started a TU1 map (I know there was no such thing but you get my point) and left most of it unexplored, would it auto-generate with TU2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 terrain when I explored it depending on what was the current version? Is there some defenitive information released regarding this by 4J?
Surely they must realise it is difficult to start a map, knowing there is new content around the corner which means you might need to start again?
Again, apologies if this has been answered before but I would like to get some sort of definitive answer, or link to an answer, if possible.
In theory, if you have not yet explored the overland area, it will generate per the rules of the current patch when explored..
But I still recommend starting a new world for every new patch. It ensures that you won't have any flubs (well related to legacy at least). Plus it keeps the game from getting stale.

Yes. If you have a map made the day Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition came outon May 9th 2012 and loaded it right now in Title Update 8, any unexplored areas would generate new terrain from Title Update 8. However, there is not a 100% guarantee that you will receive all terrain changes from an update. Since your world has already been made, the seed has already decided where things will go when you explore. That can lead to worlds not generate certain biomes and what have you since the seed has already decided whether or not such a thing would go there.
Minecraft worlds are made up of chunks. These chunks are 16 blocks x 16 blocks and go from bedrock to the sky. Once you step foot into a chunk, it is permanently generated along with a certain radius of chunks around you (though I'm not sure how far this range is on the Xbox 360). Any chunks you or anyone else in your wolrd have not stepped into, will not have generated yet. Meaning if you wait for Title Update 10, whatever terrain changes (if any) will begin generating in those chunks you have not stepped foot in.
