I get lost underground, and sick of looking for the way out, and with an inventory reaching capacity, I just do the ol' dig-up-straight-up-and-column thing, hoping I'm not under a mountain.
And then, just as I break through, in comes the water. Dug out right under the ocean or a big lake.
Too many times I try to swim up through the hole, but it's slow, slow going. And once you try this, you're doomed if you don't get to surface -- cuz the hole you arrived in is now filled with water.
But sometimes I could swear the game won't LET you surface in these situations. Has anyone else had this happen? You're incrementally moving up but then suddenly stop, and stay there until you drown?
It doesn't happen often to me, but it has happened before. The water was pushing you down, making you swim slower. I remember this happening to me one time, and I had 6 Diamonds on me. What a horrible day that was...
I haven't had this happen to me in a long, long time; but I'm keeping a hint for catching a breath underwater that wolfeuk put on another thread. I always have a bucket of water with me, so after swimming out through the hole, swim off to the side a little and then empty and fill the bucket again underwater. Filling the emptied bucket gives a quick pocket of air. Do this as often as needed until you break the surface.
I've only had that happen when the bubbles disappear and no more bubbles... Which means drowning. Even in still water this happens, well when the bubbles runs out. I have actually drowned this way, all because while drowning you have 0% chance of moving up. That is not to say if you have a alternate way to create air pockets with you then that will be the only way to surface... Else it is 0% as the water current is too strong.
That was a change in TU7 that they made from the prior update that I noticed. Water was not this strong before TU7. This includes still water. current water/moving water, actually is about the same strength, however I have noticed a little difference; not by much though. I just think 4J should change the overall water strength down a bit since it also affecting not just the character, but moving parts as well; ie pistons trying to push up. Either way it is the one thing I do not enjoy, as I know early on when you don't have a bucket, you are doomed to drown if diving for anything running out of bubbles...><
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
i used a substandard method of construction for my first underwater base which left the ocean above the base in turmoil. i can see and feel when i break free of the underwater current swimming to the surface.
toward solving the issue, you might consider stairstepping your escape.. water will only travel so far down your tunnel, flushing you out the end instead of drowning you in a hole. 3x as many broken blocks, but far fewer deaths.
Carry one door in your inventory you can't beat a door for an underwater breathing aid. Just stand on the bottom of the ocean plop it down and enjoy your air pocket. This is also a good way to build underwater without drowning.
