I'm using more torches at cave spider spawners than on other spawners and still getting them to spawn. Trying to work the abandoned mine but these spawners are giving me a fit. Without destroying the spawner or just sealing them up (they make so much noise) how do you deal with this?
I destroy the spawners since cave spiders produce the same drops as regular spiders and regular spider spawners are far easier to manage, I don't worry about eventually having a world without cave spiders in it... in fact, I'd prefer it.

They are annoying and I can understand your position but I HAVE to have everything on a map.

I always box them in and leave a glass window so I can see them... just in case something changes down the line and we need them for something or they give better drops.

I hadn't thought of that really. Still, chances are I won't be playing on any of my current worlds whenever that might happen, so not too big a deal I guess... still, maybe I'll go to boxing one in on each world... just in case.
Does the box have to be a certain size tho? I boxed one in, leaving a 1 or 2 block gap around it (I can't remember) and I swear they were spawning outside it. That's why I just destroy them now. You get quite a bit of experience for them too.
yes... I believe it is something like 8x8, but mind as well make it 9x9 and 3 layers up & down. That should block any sort of spawning. This is quite similar to the only way you can stop a blaze spawner from spawning. The center point is offset to 1 side, by which I can not remember if it was northeast or southwest... or something like that. That was the reason I said mind as well do a 9x9x3. That way you would have it covered.
They for the most part are able to spawn up to 4-5 blocks from the spawn on those 3 hieghts. If that does not work then double the height adding 1-2 more layers to the top and bottom..:D
This works for silverfish spawners too, well usually...><

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
