Ok so i am trying to create a slime farm, but i cannot figure out what chunks they spawn in.
I used the slime finder with the highlighted chunks, but i don't understand it. If my map says that where i am standing is x: -179 and z: 161 and the slime finder says that a chunk that produces slime is -176,224 to -160, 240. Does that mean that i am on a slime chunk?
No, you're not on the slime chunk. You need to be standing between:
Your X coordinate on your map needs to say soemthing between - 160 and - 176 and your Z coordinate has to say something between 224 and 240. Your Y coordinate has to be between 1 and 16 (I think), unless they changed it so that they'll now spawn above Y16. (ETA: checked the Wiki to refresh my memory - they will now spawn on any layer below Y40. Put another way, the corners of your chunk are X-160, X-176, Z224 and Z240.
ETA: I was in a hurry and messed this up - the 4 corners of your slime chunk are:

i would go to -176,224 and drop a redstone torch or something as an identifier.. go to -160,240 and drop another redstone torch (or any block you don't randomly strew about).
your -179 coordinate is not within the chunk as -179 is not between -160 and -176.
place your two redstone torch corners and make 2 lines, one in each direction toward the other redstone torch. eventually your tunnels will intersect. clear out that area.
i'm sakredchao on xbl if you would like help.. i'm up for clearing out an area with another person.. i want to try out multiplayer while my month of xbl is still active and my internet can't handle large groups of multiplayer.
i found an area of the map which had 3 chunks next to each other for my slime farm!
