So a lot of talk about Minecraft Realms is starting.. I've heard about it a couple weeks back and I'm excited!
Right now I run a semi 24/7 server... and the extra X-Box, extra Gold Membership and the whole ordeal is a hassle...
So I can't wait!... I Don't know how much I would be willing to pay... somewhere in the "realm" of $20+ would be feasible for me....
What do you guys think?! ... I Can't freaking wait!

Isn't it only for PC? Why are you getting excited? Unless you're excited to use it on PC.
No it's for PC and PE as of right now.. Which can only mean that the gears are turning in the right direction towards us eventually getting a similar service... even then the PC and PE versions are only in test phase right now.

As I understand it, Realms is geared to enabling more worry-free play between small groups of friends, something which the current PC servers don't easily facilitate... but something that we XBox users already have with Live. That is, up to 8 players from our friends list can just join our game, with or without a simple invite if we desire. I don't think it is offering what XBox users are wanting in the way of rental servers. Xbox users want access to larger worlds where large numbers of players can join in without a friends list being necessarily involved. If I'm understanding the purpose of Realms correctly, I don't think I would be willing to pay extra to have it duplicate what Live essentially already does.

It enables online play while the Host, (which is the only one incurring the charge) is offline. To me that fact alone is completely worth it.

I hadn't really thought about that angle of it. I guess I just don't think of play among a small group of close friends taking place while the host is offline; but then again, I'm mostly geared to playing with people who are actually sitting in my living room (or I'm sitting in there's). I don't really enjoy playing online where I don't get to see where the other players are in the world unless they are close to where I'm at. Splitscreen lets me sneak a peak.
Believe me... it is a lot more fun with others. I have a semi 24/7 server with a group of people..And it's nice to discuss things, help each other out and every once in a while trekking/railing down to see their progress.

I think the biggest example to date is Microsoft allowing EA/DICE to rent out servers on consoles for Battlefield 3. That felt pretty revolutionary to me, and being that Minecraft is as popular as it is, I could see them capitalizing on the opportunity in the near future.
Granted, with the 8 player limit, it feels rather pointless.
I would pay, as long as they are smart and put Ps4, xbox720, PC servers together. No point splitting the community, when the hardware is more then good enough on the new consoles.

Good luck with that.
I'm with UpUp_Away95 on this one. Minecraft Realms is just offering PC players what the Xbox 360 Edition has had since it launched in May ofl ast year. A simple easy way to play with a small group of friends.
The Minecraft Realms servers only support up to like 4 players I believe. So they aren't much different from the way we play our game. I'm also with Kmack11. The only time my friends want to play Minecraft is when we're all online at the same time because playing alone is boring. So paying for a server that my friends may or may not play on while I'm not on is a waste of money.

I personally want nothing to do with Sony's mediocre online system..

Also, minecraft has pretty large upload/download rates. Connecting these to a server rather than an individual host could allow more than 8 people and with a good connection.

so realms would basically be for allowing people to play on your world when you are offline and maybe alleviate some lagging
i have a world that has a city with 10-15 people who play on it regularly but i wouldnt pay money just so somebody can hop on and play when im not online.. id rather they work on updates

Well then you're not trying to run a "server". You're perfectly cool with people joining your world... It's different I want to have a server and have people play at their leisure and not be dependent on my presence.
Again, I'd def pay for this option.

never said i wanted to run a "server".. if i did then i would go on the pc
if you are willing to pay $20+ a month for people to play on your world when you are not online then wow

The only time my friends want to play Minecraft is when we're all online, so this is useless to me. I can see the appeal though.
