I turn it on. It may be annoying, but that is kind of the point.
It was put there to make the last few layers of the world where the most valuable things are, a little more difficult. Difficulty is definitely something Minecraft could use a little more of in my opinion.
To be honest, I barely have an idea what bedrock fog looks like. When the option came out to turn it off, I did, and I had never really run into it before then. I just read about it and people said it was annoying, so I figured I wouldn't mess with it.

This is Bedrock Fog (Its name is actually Void Fog)...
Notice that even though there is a torch, it is extremely dark and the player can only see about 4 block in front of him/her. No matter how many torches you put down, Void Fog will block your view. It shortens your view the further down you go. So there could literally be a hostile mob like Creeper 4 blocks from you and you wouldn't be able to see it.

I tend to play on peaceful or with friends and family. When on peaceful or with friends, I tend to turn it off. When playing alone on easy+, I sometimes turn it on. It's very annoying, though.
I just have it turned off but now hearing that it makes the game more difficult i think im going to turn it on. As soon as the new update came out I looked at the settings and turned it off and never changed it since then.
Hmm... it was off by default for me...>< It does make bedrocks runs a bit more challenging, since it does make your view shorter...
For me though I have always had it off, since I build down there too..lol
Oh well. I do like the feature, and it really does not bother me either way. I guess I would be 50-50 on this. The third answer doesn't reflect that though...><
I do agree it can be annoying, but that all depends on what I am doing at that time, and in which world. Since I am a builder mainly I usually would lean toward no. However it does have an upside if I wanted more challenge on easy... but not the amount that it would have on hard, since the mobs hit harder...>< i really aught to play on normal, but I get distracted too often... So I usually keep it on easy since creepers explosion is pretty much the same, and my only concern, usually.
I actually forgot about the void fog since they put that option in. ><

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
I don't think it's annoying at all. I think it's really cool that it's there. I never turn it off, in fact I'm bummed it's not there in creative mode. It's one of those things like, if I'm in a huge underground cave and there's fog, I love it. It looks so cool to peek up while in a massive ravine and see the fog and everything. I just think it adds a great deal to mining deep underground.

Never liked it.. Messed up my first slime farm... and since they gave us the option to Not have it.. I have kept it off.
The same thing happened to me. I had just finished digging out this huge chamber underground so I could spawn Slimes. Then the new update came out that added Villages and a few other things. When I went down to check my chamber, there was this black fog in it. At that point I figured my chamber was ruined. But then they came out with the 1.2.3 update which gave me the option of turning off the fog. I did that, and haven't used it since.

WIP 128x 64x, SEUS support, Mod support in the pipeline TEKKIT, FTB, the more support the more mods!
I'm confused as o how the fog ruined things like Slimes farms for people? All it did was make it harder to see. It in no way has any bearing on the spawning or anything to do with mobs. It is solely in place to make it harder for you to see.

When you build a farm with aesthetics in mind, the low visibility ruined the "look" of these farms at least in my case it did.
I never mentioned any issues with spawning or spawn rates.

mustchae is right you guys make it seems all if some destroyed it completly as some took all your torches. or (say it wasnt at bedrock) blow it up. but no its just fog in the way. dont you think that may be a little over doing it

No you didn't, but you're implying that spawning/spawn rates would be the reason why some of us felt that our
slime farms were "messed up".
Nope. Just trying to think of reason people would think the fog messed their slime farms up. As someone who isn't bothered by the fog, I wasn't aware it could ruin the look of a mob farm. Especially one that is usually just a giant square room at bedrock.
Since the 50-50 option was added, i actually recast my vote. I could care less about the void fog, some like it, others hate it. I just play with it off because that was the default on my current worlds, and i never bothered to change the setting.
Yes you're right it doesn't destroy anything but it takes the aesthetic appeal out of all buildings and makes finding slimes in your farm harder.
Those screenshots show a very small room close to bedrock level. The room isn't built to look nice it is just a room to store items and smelt a few things as I mine tunnels for diamonds but the fog makes it looks far worse than it already does.
I will actually go and make something better underground. The room above is a fairly poor example.
its just my opinion but i think that looks even better with the fog
