a snow ball does actually do damage, it's just a small amount that it would take a very long time to kill normal mobs (except for a skellie/zombie, those would burn up on dawn)

Snowballs do NO damage to anything except Blazes and the Enderdragon. I've tested it out on chickens, just to see if it could. I threw enough snowballs at that chicken to fill ten Fort Knoxes (not literally, but I threw a lot of snowballs). It didn't even take a lick of damage. It still took the same exact amount of punches to kill it as it would a chicken I hadn't pummeled with snowballs.
What is the point of snow golems as a defense system? Don't they only hurt nether mobs?

Hmmm, never thought of that. I think I will start my own snow golem defense system.
My advice for a "pit o' doom" is to lie a three by three square three blocks deep. on the bottom place a pattern of sand and netherrack, placing fire on the netherrack and cactus on the sand, cover the top with cobwebs if desired (not 100% necessary but I like the effect) and place near your snow golem Kiosk. Enjoy watching mobs being pushed to Armageddon.

How do you collect cobwebs? Don't you need silk touch sheers? I thought silk touch on sheers was only obtainable by an enchanted book. I'm probably wrong though.

only in creative can you obtain cobwebs ONLY in creative. maby silk touch but i dont think you can enchant shears on a xbox. maby a shovel

yes but they push back ALL mobs if you construct a pit or some sort of trap the mobs can be pushed back into they work well

Once anvils come out you will be able to collect them because on the computer you can use a book and get silk touch shears and that collects the webs.
the only thing i use anvils for is traps HAaHAHA
No problem Im glad someone pays attention to my crazy self-defense ideas. I feel kinda like a minecraft survivalist.
