when i ran a 24/7 server i hated nothing more than kids joining for 10 minutes making a cobblestone box then never rejoining the server, SERIOUSLY waste my time much?
What did you expect, a masterpiece? A home is a good just to have. At least they didn't build it into the side of the mountain and patched it up with mixtures of dirt, sand, and wood logs
or my favorite, dig a hole straight down into the ground and work from there lol

"Only the trees which you know are not trees for food you may destroy and cut down, to build siegeworks against the city that makes war with you, until it is subdued." (Deuteronomy 20:20 NKJV)
Obsidian shelters.
I mean, sure, they function, but I find that most people don't know how to design with Obsidian, so it just looks like an ugly cube.

the only time i made a obsidian cube was on survival for a bank, and no one except me saw that, because nobody was able to enter the bank, best bank ever
Perfect boxes.
If naught else, I remove the corners from them so they don't look that boxy.
Other than that, I'd say anything that doesn't work with the other materials / surroundings....
Anything made with iron gold or diamond.... it just looks like a periodic table of elements. Ive experienced way too many. Also made of obsidian, pure brick, and lapiz.. I hate pure brick... at least add a roof and some wood..
Can't say I really hate any type of design, after all I myself started out building with mixing dirt and cobble... look at my sig... you would know from the old pics. Over time I grew my own touch, also my sig... I spruced things up in a way that you would see a difference. or at least an improvement.
if it is a dirt box, all I would ask is what function does it serve...? As a temp base that will eventually be torn down for a better one... well that is fine. I storage shed that will be picked apart from enderman.. I guess that is fine, just slap some vines on it to look like it was a mud shelter that was worn with time after the enderman have had there hand in it.
For me I can look at something and see where I would do a modification to it, but it is more like what they want to do rather than me. I can only suggest. I don't see me ever hating on or just plain hating a build of any kind. I would rather critic and give suggestions, and leave it up to them to decide what they want to do to improve, or go off in their own style if not making a style their own. Practice makes a better maze...:D

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
I hated cobblestone boxes back in the ol' days with the old cobblestone texture. But now I'm only indifferent.
I had a friend who always build those and everytime I would grief him, every... single... time... It was mostly because he wouldn't just make a small box, he HAD to have GIANT boxes, and oodles of furnaces. So I would rig TNT to blow his home to hell the second he walked into it
Square boxes made out of the same material. Also little houses with 2 block ceilings, I can't have low celings like that. In creative, i'd say a diamond block house. Diamonds are very nice if used correctly, but not a square building made of nothing but diamond blocks. Why would you even want that? Just my opinion.

i dont blame you, ugh how un-creative can people get
the stereotypical "batchelor pad" design. I've not seen any yet that actually look like they belong, mostly because they all use the same re-hashed design.
My first ever Minecraft house was made out of cobble and wood and wasn't even square. I think it's a good starting point tbh when you're already thinking outside the box to begin with...
its fine as a starting building but, i give all people on my server enough materials to make a good house with nice design, but they cant design
i dont care what kind of house people make in my world. if it is livable and/or you can hide from mobs in it than its a good house to me. it could be the tash-ma-hall or it could be a small shack

my friend and i play on new worlds a lot, since we enjoy starting out with nothing, and building up from there. but my friend always builds the same thing. a cobble and glass box, that just gets bigger, and bigger and bigger. like a boxy cobble cancer. he laughs at my small homes. right now, i have a clay brick house, quite long and narrow, with a tower at one end (not huge that would look stupid) and wood stair roof. not by any means a masterpiece, but i am proud of it. it took ages to find the clay for it, and more time again to find all the coal needed to smelt it. meanwhile, this abomination keeps growing! for him, size is what matters. for me, i like something that took time and effort to find the materials, not just using the by-product of our branch mining system. i have a lava waste disposal for that reason, i personally hate having more than a chest full of cobble. he on the other hand, hates 'wasting' anything, so uses every bit of cobble he can find. he even raids my cobble chest since i 'dont use it' (which of course i do, just, not for structures). rant over, i am sick of telling him to make his build prettier not bigger and he wont listen, this seemed like the place to get it off my chest. lol
tell him hes a crappy builder xD

You have to start somewhere no everyone wants to build big structures.
Me personally i keep peoples structures even if its half built, it almost gives a sense of ruins in your world.
