I don't even know what a flamewar is so I'm sure I wasn't trying to start one. I didn't ask for opinions It's simple yes or no as if anyone felt the way I did... It seems that the people that feel the answer is "No" also feel the need to then explain and state why my "opinion" is wrong... But yeah... what's a flame war?
I could care less whether something was built in Creative or Survival. What matters is how it looks.
You can go into creative, make a giant dome and act impressed with yourself. However, if that giant dome is just that, an empty giant dome, I see nothing impressive about it. Now if you make a dome, stylize it and fill it with something like what is shown below, color me impressed.
Same thing goes for the most popular structure type to build. I could care less if you spent 100 hours building castle if it looks really plain and is just a shell. Decorate the insides and outsides. Put some creative designs into it.
From then on I only argued with people who seemed to be calling Creative users lazy, or some other type of derogatory thing. Essentially attacking the persons character or worth because they use Creative mode.
Kinda depends of the mode. If something was made in Creative then I expect more of it.
Now if you show me two giant castles, that look equal in size and architecture, and one was made in survival and one was made in creative I will hold the survival one in higher regard. Mega builds take 4x the effort when you have to spend hours shearing sheep, destroying a forest and mining the earth and whatever else you have to do to get your required materials.
This is a topic where most people seem to be black or white, if you always play in creative you will be one side, and survival vice versa.
I have no problem w/ creative builds and will still be impressed if they look good but I simply respect survival builds more.
As long as the player had fun doing it, it really doesn't matter.
I wouldn't. I would just think they wasted a large amount of time. It's impressive, but just because they went out and mined everything doesn't make it more impressive.
The amount of time and resources spent on a build mean nothing to me when I judge whether I like it or not.

Creative players have a huge advantage, That is why they're builds are so much better...If it wasn't for creative players then those survival player wouldn't have any survival maps to download...
Maybe I need to download a map or 2 and play in them... To get a better grasp on the scope of the builds. (Not a Fan of 3rd Party Programs though).
Also see I'm not just some "creative hater" I do find some builds very very impressive.. Like the Beetlejuice rollercoaster.. I don't think "psshhh try doing that in survival!"

I dont think a survival build should be matched against creative both are good and have to be judged in their own tiers , like creative vs creative survival vs survival, of course in creative you have to go big or go home otherwise whats the use of flying around? Survival......i dont see whats more amazing about it other then you can see the blood sweat and tears in the project . I think it depends on the type of "minecrafter" you are to give props but i dont see why you would want to say survival is better then creative because its all in one game. if your build is a crap build survival or creative wouldnt make it be judged better.... ......"block for one block for all"
Makes complete sense if you look at what people are saying.
Most peoples reason for why Survival builds are better is because someone had to go out and gather the resources needed to build. When you build with Legos, there is no resource gathering. You just get a crap load of Legos and you build whatever your imagination can think of. That is exactly what Creative Mode is. It gives you everything you need to create whatever you can imagine without having to go hunt for the resources.
So are people less impressed with large detailed things made with Legos as well? Since the person who made the build with Legos can just go appropriate a basically unlimited supply of Legos to build with? Or does that person need to go make the Legos themselves for it to be impressive?
Also, no one is saying Creative is more impressive. What people are trying to say is that they should be equally impressive. Regardless of the means used to achieve a build. time, thought, and hopefully heart went into build it.
This was made with Creative/World Edit on the PC. It took the builder almost 2 months to complete it. How is it any more or less impressive if it took someone longer?
Ah yes, I remember that awhile ago. I was very impressed (somewhat disheartened because I can't make big builds like that. lol) On topic though... it doesn't matter how or what mode you build on. All work is impressive if you put your heart and soul into the art we all come to love known as Mineraft.

It's not illegal.. It's not some "crime" I own my Xbox and can do with it as I please..
It may be frowned upon, but that is all.. Again I bought my XBox from Microsoft.. I didn't lease it.

However, playing on a friend's adventure map is not in anyway even questionable. A person who has built up an adventure map can create a USB (or cloud) backup of the gamesave, invite a bunch of friends to play on the one saved on their hard drive (or cloud)... then later delete the one from hard drive (or cloud) and copy the backup onto the hard drive to played by a different group of friends. It just means the map is not played by as great a number of strangers/players as on the PC where they would download them and play with their own friends.

It may not be "illegal" per-say, but it is against the Xbox Live TOS which means if you get caught doing it, you could get banned from Xbox Live.

Since they would all be creative worlds clearly leaderboards and achievements would not be an issue....
So to anyone that feels that they are in fact that important that Microsoft is actually looking at their activity just to "catch them"
red handed, can load any saves to any other made up Free-GT..
Microsoft doesn't care......

However, in the context of whether or not "creative" has a "legitimate" value on the Xbox for building adventure maps - it's completely irrelevant since adventure maps may be created to be merely played on by groups of friends; and such a practice would clearly be within the TOS.
(PS: This comment is not directed at MG or the OP. I honestly don't know for sure whether or not Microsoft cares about altering the ownership of individual gamesaves.)
Back to the original discussion - Thanks to this thread, I now believe that I actually hold survival builds in LESS regard than creative builds IF the maker of those builds is compelled to insist that the mere act of spending hours and hours pressing the right trigger mining arbitrarily makes the build superior to a creative build.
I find it odd that Creative's proponents are against "Map-Sharing".
I'm certainly not against map sharing... and I don't interpret MG's comments to suggest that he's against it either. It's a feature I would sincerely like to see 4J add to the Xbox edition. I can only guess that it's not currently a supported feature because of some limitation with Live itself and that the maps currently have a clearly designated ownership associated with the creator's Live gamertag. However, that shouldn't mean that I'm prepared to risk altering that ownership through unsupported means even if I do believe that Microsoft won't likely ever detect it or care much about it.
In the general sense of "Map-Sharing" I'm sure they're not against it.. I'm sure if this was PC those comments would not have been mentioned...
But within our system ....they're pretty much trying to talk/scare people out of doing it.

Agreed, this discussion would not come up on the PC merely because the connection between the gamesave and a specific Live gamertag doesn't exist on the PC. As I said before, I don't know why it's unsupported right now... but I don't really care whether anyone else does it or not, I'm just saying that I don't do it... and that doesn't mean that I'm against map sharing.

I understand. Myself I don't do it either... Honestly it just seems like a hassle..
But heck even MC PE has it. It's so simple!
But again maybe if I could experience a properly created "adventure" map. Where the point is not the build but to provide an experience that survival could not provide I would probably love creative mode more.
