It just feels so satisfying spending days collecting all of the resources you need in survival and see your creation slowly build. I just find Creative a massive cheat mode, a tool to use if you are bored, not a main building tool.
My guess is that all the people who dislike Creative and Creative Builds must have hated Legos as a child.
The people who built awesome things with Legos didn't go out and manufacture those Lego pieces so it's obviously of lesser quality when built into something.
Im sorry, but this has to be the stupidest thing Ive ever heard. Has a little kid ever done that? No. That makes no sense what so ever.
Im going to repeat what a lot of people have said. If two structures are exactly identical, the one built in survival is obviously more impressive. With all the variables that everyone has previously stated its clearly more difficult. When you finish a build in creative mode you usually go for something massive because you have infinite blocks and all the resources you want. When you build something in survival mode you have to account for that. I feel a bigger sense of accomplishment when I finish a somewhat large project on my survivall world then I would in a creative world that I'm rarely going to use.
Another reason why survival builds are more impressive is because, unlike most creative builds, you are actually going to use it for something. The only reason anyone should do a large build in creative is if they are making a PVP map or adventure map or something of that nature, any other reason is useless. Building a giant structure in survival can actually be used to help you in that world. It can be turned into a mob spawner, auto farm, storage, breeding room, etc. I just cant agree with the fact that making something in creative is more impressive.
Im sorry, but this has to be the stupidest thing Ive ever heard. Has a little kid ever done that? No. That makes no sense what so ever.
Makes complete sense if you look at what people are saying.
Most peoples reason for why Survival builds are better is because someone had to go out and gather the resources needed to build. When you build with Legos, there is no resource gathering. You just get a crap load of Legos and you build whatever your imagination can think of. That is exactly what Creative Mode is. It gives you everything you need to create whatever you can imagine without having to go hunt for the resources.
So are people less impressed with large detailed things made with Legos as well? Since the person who made the build with Legos can just go appropriate a basically unlimited supply of Legos to build with? Or does that person need to go make the Legos themselves for it to be impressive?
Also, no one is saying Creative is more impressive. What people are trying to say is that they should be equally impressive. Regardless of the means used to achieve a build. time, thought, and hopefully heart went into build it.
This was made with Creative/World Edit on the PC. It took the builder almost 2 months to complete it. How is it any more or less impressive if it took someone longer?

Ok. So if a person went and gathered all of the materials for legos and went through the trouble of making hundreds of them, then went and built some amazing structure you wouldnt think thats more impressive. Im not as much trying to argue that point, im just saying that its a horrible example. This is minecraft not real life.
And as much as I respect that build. Its useless. Why not spend your time in a survival game gathering supplies and making something youre actually going to use. It may not be more impressive, but i respect the builder in survival a hell of a lot more.

I wouldn't. I would just think they wasted a large amount of time. It's impressive, but just because they went out and mined everything doesn't make it more impressive.
The amount of time and resources spent on a build mean nothing to me when I judge whether I like it or not.

You just said it took that person over 2 months to build that water thing, which means you think the more time it takes, the more impressive it is. Isnt that exactly what gathering materials is?

You are completely missing the point...
Almost everyone in this thread trying to say Creative isn't as impressive as Survival is pretty much citing the amount of time it takes to build something in Survival as the thing that makes it more impressive. So, I posted a video of something that took a long period of time attempting to show those that value that aspect the most to be used in judgement of how impressive it is, that builds can take very long to accomplish in Creative as well.
The thing that should matter is the amount of detail, design/architecture, and the amount of heart put into it. People don't judge paintings on how long they took to complete. They judge them on what they express, their detail, the colors, the emotion, etc, etc. If someone painted something to rival the Mona Lisa but only did it in a day, no one is going to give a crap. It is the end result that should matter. Now how that result was achieved.
Everyone trying to make clever replies are just butthurt. If the effort it took to do something is greater then I think it is more impressive but I guess i'm weird to think that. Besides, it is harder to do in survival because of enemies/hunger/falling/drowning/burning and anything else I forgot, therefore it is more impressive; deal with it kids..
The way I see it happening more frequently is someone who built something in survival that is actually inferior to a creative build states that they did it in survival just so people will be more impressed by it than they should be. It's used like a crutch and that, quite frankly, sours me on a lot of people who excessively brag about building in survival only. I'd rather just not know whether the build was made in creative or survival so that I'm free to just judge the build on it's merits rather than be asked to judge the nature of the player's gameplay at the same time. Gameplay skill can and should really only be judged while playing the game.
I go back and forth on the question, mostly because the amount of time I spent building things on survival that would not take nearly as long on creative. I spent 10s of hours clearing a desert just to build a sandstone pyramid, this was before enchanting too so it was all unenchanted tools.
Ha! The votes are split right down the middle.. I figured that would be the case..
I would of put a "Neither" Option but it seems that as you think about the question it really is black and white.
Yes "I find due to the background work that Survival Builds are more impressive"
or
No " I don't care how the blocks got there as long as it looks good"
For me it goes back to for example when I was a kid and I thought about the great pyramids.
The work involved in transporting the materials, lives lost and the time spent to make the structures is what I found impressive.
At the end of the day it's just a big stone pyramid...
If this same pyramid was done with super strength suits and jetpacks... I don't believe I would of found it impressive at all.
lol If that makes sense at all.
Again guys Not trying to demean creative builds it was Just my personal opinion.
Show my any of the great maps/builds built in MC while in creative and then show me the guy that took 10X as long to do the same exact thing in survival for the sake of doing it "manually"...... A boss in my book

Exactly. When I build a very impressive house, I am like: "Oh my god, my baby!"
When I build the same house in Creative I am like: "Well okay then." than I leave the world and never play on it again.

But you're really comparing apples and oranges with this one. Building in Minecraft in either creative or survival really only involves pressing the same sorts of buttons on the controller in both cases. Both groups have the exact same technology at their very fingertips. In this context, survival building just really means that the player wastes more of their time sitting on the couch playing a game. If the Ancient Egyptians had the technology to build the pyramids in a fraction of the time it did take them, I'm sure they would have leapt at the opportunity. If they had the tech and they just didn't use it... we'd all just be calling them foolish.
Building in Minecraft is building in Minecraft. If you do it in Creative, or do it in Survival, it means nothing to me when you post a picture -- I'll just look at it as a piece of work built in Minecraft. How you got the materials doesn't really matter.
I guess the bone of contention is that Survival Players have to find and gather the materials first -- so there is much more time involved.
And some people see that as wasted time. Some people see that as playing the game.
One of the best things about Minecraft is that you can play it the way you want. So polls like this are silly and are only going to breed needless resentment, IMHO.

Pretty sure that was the point of this poll and thread. To make a flame war.
I barely ever touch Creative as it gets boring to me. Yet I see no reason not to defend it since I see no difference in how impressive things in Survival are compared to their Creative counterparts.

when i was little i built all the star wars ships i built so many things so many huge structers. i guess thats what made me a minecraft fan too

Both are impressive, but you really have to work harder in survival since you have to actually get the resources first. I know my world would look a milliion times better if I was in creative since I wouldnt have to get the resources.

I don't even know what a flamewar is so I'm sure I wasn't trying to start one. I didn't ask for opinions It's simple yes or no as if anyone felt the way I did... It seems that the people that feel the answer is "No" also feel the need to then explain and state why my "opinion" is wrong... But yeah... what's a flame war?

but i definitely hold impressive survival builds in higher regard than impressive creative builds.
it's more the thought of how much work went into a survival build that gives it the edge.
