funny how everyone makes quotes then never backs them up when questioned....lol
yes a DLC and mod are the same in that they add something extra to the game, but thats where the similarity ends,
as ive said soooo many times on this forum
a mod is USER made
DLC is made by the developer
I DONT MAKE THE RULES, MICROSOFT DOES, SO DONT KEEP HAVING A GO AT ME JUST CAUSE I BACK UP THE RULES, THERES NO ARGUMENT HERE, MODS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE XBOX360
i really fail to understand why ppl dont understand this ?
it couldnt be any simpler.....really !!
ive also said if you want anything you have seen as a mod then go to the suggestions thread and ask for it there, if the DEVELOPER can they will add it into the game
THIS IS THE LAST TIME I WILL POST ON ANY MOD POST, IN FUTURE I WILL JUST REPORT IT !!
And it's still the same thing. Is a McDouble not a double cheeseburger just because McDonald's labels it differently? One could also argue that a mod is user-made and that DLC is developer-made, that's where the differences end. It's still saying the same thing. The difference between a mod and DLC is comparable to the difference between hyper-threading and multi-threading. Though Intel coined their own terminology for it, it's still only glorifying a multi-threaded CPU.

Completely different one second then the same in another...
All together now... Devs... Users.... they all make mods.... only the company that started the game though can get a mod turned into a DLC.
Mod = Modification =
Noun
The action of modifying something.
A change made.
Thus being said once again.. any "updates" 4J makes to the game is technically a mod! Then has microsoft turn it into a DLC. Hence its the same damn thing.
and if you go back to the 2nd page of this thread you will see I explained DLC if you truely don't understand what DLC is.

I myself have tried to explain this, many, many times, it seems people on this forum do not understand, I started a thread about 4J contacting mod creators to do just this, and it got shut down. My two cents for this discussion, Some of the best DLC for consoles actually started as a "mod" for the pc version of this game, take some of the smaller features added with Skyrim's DLC, crossbows, for example, were added to the pc version of Skyrim within weeks of its release, So all this talk about Microsoft NEVER allowing mods on their console is completely untrue, they just make sure it gets tested extensively so they can be sure there are no viruses, hacks, or other security risks present within the code, then change the label from "mod" to "DLC."

Expect that Crossbows were in TES III Morrowind and people have been begging for them to legtitamely be in the game since then. Bethesda just finally gave in.
So all this talk about Microsoft NEVER allowing mods on their console is completely untrue, they just make sure it gets tested extensively so they can be sure there are no viruses, hacks, or other security risks present within the code, then change the label from "mod" to "DLC."
It's not untrue. There are two different types of modding. developer modding, which Microsoft obviously allows because it is the devs game and community/3rd party modding. That will never be allowed.
Most of the discussion about modding Minecraft Xbox 360 confuse people who are not familiar with the practice on either the PC or the Xbox 360. The Moderators/Admins of this forum would like people to stop using the word 'Mod' because it is widely know/associated with individuals modifying their own game without the consent or participation of the company that made it.
So when someone makes a thread requesting a mod, there are many people who may assume that someone is asking to be able to mod their console/game or that we be allowed to mod our game, which will never happen.
The bottom line is that the word Mod has many different meanings to many different people. It is much easier and far more convenient to call everything DLC because everyone knows what that is. There is no confusion and nothing to clear up.
I will probably reiterate a lot of repeat information so bear with me. You people are getting all riled up because you want to request "mods". I do not see the problem with that but all with due time. We have to wait to see how they would implement it and then we can make very in-depth threads about them but not now but most likely (and this is just me speculating) after the 10th update but maybe sooner. I am always surprised at what they do come out with when they update. Converting Java to C++ without bugs is next to impossible and I give them thanks for the speed in which they do it. Coding is a very hard life. Been there and done that.
The argument that requesting mods are bad because "I'm too lazy to Google something:" is silly because let me tell you if you are too lazy to Google something then you need to take a look at your life. There is nothing stopping you from researching something to make an informed decision. That is really an inane argument.
A "mod" is a separate piece of software that adds on to Minecraft and changes it. Total user control really and I think is a great thing. It makes the game almost immortal because anything you can dream up can be a reality, Now when people say, "Mod" they mean being able to jump 30 feet in the air or nukes to blow huge craters in your world. Now I don't think I would like to have mods from other users because I don't see Microsoft rembursing them for their mod or 4J for that matter and might be a bit hard getting rights to it. They are quite a lot of mods out there now and it would be way to much shelling out money for them. Like I said, we will see.
Now I don't think what KioriBug said was quite correct. I understand that 4J can't go through every mod and implment it. Nobody is saying that but there is a lot of literaturefor those mods and if they don't then they won't be implmented. Simple as that. But to say that they do not give enough information in a thread isn't fair because you never gave it chance for us to discuss it. They are usually just closed and we cannot have a accurate discussion about it (and I don't mean right now. I mean like when someone posts, "4J should add <mod>" threads.) I don't think 4J would pull out of this forum. This is a huge community to them. It is what it is. A mod. Calling it something different is like calling a cat a dog, we all know it's a cat and in reality we're just pretending it's a dog. I understand that Microsoft doesn't like the word, "mod" but that's what it is. Just because they sell it as a DLC doesn't change the fact of what it is.
I am very glad to see that the locking is pretty much subsided and I understand the need for some organization but we need at least one mod thread when they start to or have added it to the game (DLC or otherwise.) There are a lot of ifs but if it is a reality I hope to see more threads about them.
tl;dr - I like mods. We should be able to discuss it. 4J rocks. Tra la la.
It's not untrue. There are two different types of modding. developer modding, which Microsoft obviously allows because it is the devs game and community/3rd party modding.
I must disagree with this. Modding is modding regardless of who does it. Microsoft only acknowledges mods made by developers. Doesn't change the fact that whoever has done it has made changes to the game hence making it a mod.

The point is, people need to stop using the word mod.
It implies user created content, which will never happen on a console. At least not legitimately.
Couldn't you just sidestep the whole minefield of mods by looking at what the mod actually does to the game and requesting the specific features in the request thread that the mod in question provides? People don't want a mod specifically because it is that particular mod; they want what the mod adds to the game. Like that one that adds more mobs- don't request the mod, list the animals/creatures that you want that it provides.

So we should just neglect our freedom of speech because someone doesn't like a word.
Xbox Live Indie Games (abbreviated as XBLIG, and previously called Xbox Live Community Games) are user created video games released on Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace for the Xbox 360. - Taken from the Wikipedia
Hence user created on a console making your objection obsolete.
Also from what you say it can be implied that instead of people asking for the "tekkit mod" they should ask for the "tekkit dlc" like it really changes anything? They are still asking for "tekkit" or whatever mod/dlc they are wanting.

Indie games have their own certification to go through before they are approved. Games are just not uploaded to the market place.
Remember also, Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition is also an Arcade game.
Again, I will reiterate, we do not want users to ask for "tekkit mod pack, or "tekkit dlc". Tekkit has hundreds of features. What HotaruTomoe said is exactly what we want.
You may feel that us wanting to move the community away from the word "mod" is silly, but if their is a chance that Microsoft doesn't like our discussion of "mods", they can pull 4J out of here, and your suggestions would be for naught.

Your rights have nothing to do with the online forum. I believe you are completely misunderstanding what free speech is...
"Congress shall make no law."
Congress isn't allowed to abridge your freedom of speech. That means the First Amendment only applies to the government, not private parties, like the Minecraft forums.

Instead of saying "I want the Mo Creatures Mod", they want people to make a suggestion like "I want more animals/mobs in the game" and then go into more detail. Like what mobs, what they would do, where they would spawn, etc, etc.

I do realize that MC is an arcade game which users cannot upload content for. I'm failing to understand how our conversation has any bearing on any agreement that 4J has with Microsoft. None of us in this conversation work for either company to my knowledge. Now if 4J got on the forums and got involved with this debate and microsoft didn't like what 4J said then I could see it being an issue. But hence we are merely users this conversation has no affect to the buisness of either company. It is merely suggestions in hopes that 4J may read and decide to implement.

I covered this also in my last reply, which I think you missed since I went back to edit it.
We do not want users to use the word "mod". This is full within our rights to ask this of you, the users, who sign up to this privately hosted website.
No matter how I stress it, people will never understand the concept behind why we do not want players to request mods. I've posted it several times over and over.
It's simply not just the word. It's what comes with it. I can't think of a mod out there that doesn't just do one thing that the title fully explains what it is, what it does, how it should work, and why.

And out of respect I do not request mods myself which is what is not wanted here. I'm merely debating the use of the word mod. If I said I want a mod with a lion and a hunting rifle to be added to the game as a DLC I would not see this to be an issue with forum rules. If I was to ask for the tekkit mod then yes I get that is what the rules do not want people doing and penalties should be applied.

I never said you did, and I am happy that you respect the rules we have in place. The wording needs worked, I know when users request mods, that they are not actually asking to mod the system. They want the mod they are requesting added to the game.
Do not request mods or ideas for mods in this section. Modifications to the Minecraft: Xbox Edition is against the Xbox Live Terms of Use.
there it is. End of discussion. lol
so don't ask for mods.. ask for changes... (still the same thing) lmao
Essentially yes, and I stated earlier that the wording needs worked. When it comes to "Download content" and "mods" they are the same thing in a sense. Just labeled differently, and one is made by the creator.
Just wanted to give you all a heads up. Talked with my Admin about the rule, and we reworded it:
Do not request mods
Do not request new mods, existing mods or ideas for mods in this section. Referencing an existing mod as context for your feature request is acceptable, however specific mod requests alone are not allowed. This includes DLC marketplace requests. Modifications to the Minecraft: Xbox Edition is against the Xbox Live Terms of Use.
