What I'm suggesting is that there is a slightly deeper reason than just mere labeling for the moderators on this forum to ask that posters refrain from just continually demanding that certain mods by name be added to the Xbox. Xbox is not open source, has never been open source, and is unlikely to ever become open source... regardless of whatever the lovers of the PC-style mods call these community-created modifications to a commercial game's code.
So what you are getting at is instead of people requesting specific mods they should go in the suggestion forum and request every idea thats been implemented in a mod making a mile long request instead of just summing it up with what the mod is. They can take the game in any direction they want. Not to mention the people that took the time to build these mods could possibly have a career within the company one day and already know the coding of their own mod simplifying the task of adding it as a DLC. I know Xbox is not open source. In no way should anyone be allowed to freely modify any game at any time. Changes to the game come from the companies that produce the game and thus we have cert testing thru microsoft to ensure there are no loop holes.
Also to say that noone working on Minecraft hasn't messed with any of the mods and might want to implement some ideas is just silly. This game is their job. It would be irresponsible for them not to see what "mods" people have made and to see what people want implemented in their game. Kinda part of the thing of being a successful buisness is making sure your customers are satisfied with what they are getting. Now I know they can't implement every single mod there is out there but gotta start somewhere making the customers like your product.
also take note I do not request any mods for the game ever. I want to wait and see what they do to it and enjoy it as it comes to us. I make small suggestions like a drawbridge (posted in the suggestion section). Then again anything anyone suggests to change by definition once again is a mod(ification) to the game so in a sense every request is a mod.
So what you are getting at is instead of people requesting specific mods they should go in the suggestion forum and request every idea thats been implemented in a mod making a mile long request instead of just summing it up with what the mod is.
That is actually what the Forum Moderators want people to do.
Why should 4J be expected to know what every single mod on the PC is and includes? Why should we expect them to go look it up and research its every detail. That isn't their job.
It would make things much easier if someone requested some like Mo Creatures and instead of just saying "I want Mo Creatures!" as an entire thread, they could be a little more specific. What mobs do they want? What would those mobs be used for? What would they add to the gameplay? Would they be a waste of time and resources? How many people want these things?
People also need to remember than many people here do not have or play the PC version. How can they expect those people to know what any of the mods are that they're naming off? You don't go to a business presentation, say a few words, and then expect everyone in the room to go home and look up everything you talked about. You need to explain it, elaborate, and get you point across.
Also to say that noone working on Minecraft hasn't messed with any of the mods and might want to implement some ideas is just silly.
Where did I say that or even remotely imply that? Answer: I didn't. Please, continue to go off on your own little tangent...
Regardless of whether people say "mod" or "DLC," if they're asking for it to be added by name in it's entirety, then to accomplish that 4J would have to reach a legal agreement with ALL the parties that might have prior rights to that mod. 4J have obviously entered into a legally binding agreement with both Mojang and Microsoft in order to port the game onto the Xbox; and I would expect at the very least they would have to obtain a similar agreement from anyone whose written a mod they might consider porting as DLC. Both Mojang and Microsoft would also probably have to be involved that such an agreement.
I have not ever mentioned nor implied anything regarding the programming competency of anyone or whether or not it might affect any prospective employment a modder might have with any company. The specifics of such an agreement would be a confidential matter among the parties involved... not open fodder for a public forum; and that is why I support the moderators decision to ask posters to refrain from asking for specfic mods in their entirety by name.

Did I say you said that... no... did I quote you saying that...no... if I was saying you said something I would have quoted it. Don't get your panties in a bunch lol. As far as the legalities go in taking a mod for the xbox I'm not sure how that all would play out exactly but in my opinion anyone that has modified the game already should have needed legal rights to do so from Mojang anyways. Its my personal opinion that between Mojang and 4J they can add anything they want to the game since its their game to do with it.
I also did not say you mentioned anything regarding their programming competency. I was merely stating the fact that Minecraft mods should be looked at by someone within the company. And of course employment decisions would be between thus said programmer and Mojang. This isn't a verbal attack or anything. Its merely my opinion and observation of things.
That is actually what the Forum Moderators want people to do.
Why should 4J be expected to know what every single mod on the PC is and includes? Why should we expect them to go look it up and research its every detail. That isn't their job.
Silly IMO, like I've said before... Minecraft is Mojang and 4J's buisness. Why wouldn't they want to see what people have done to their game and see what people are wanting added to it. They should have a whole team for looking into it. I doubt they do anything we absolutely hate however if you don't research what people are wanting then that just makes the whole suggestion section of the forums obsolete. So you should go ahead and tell the forum moderator to go ahead and delete that section then since apparently you don't think Mojang or 4J should look into what people want. Seems to me most companies have a research and development team but hey what do I know?
xbox never allows mods obviously, will never happen
Xbox allows mods to every game that has been updated which is almost every game that I can think of. They just call it an update or DLC.. bottom line anything added or changed in any game like I've said is a modification to the game from its original release. So in theory here mods happen to all games. Just labeled differently and must go thru cert testing so gamers cannot change the game themselves but the companies that create the game can release updates and DLC.
Mods are not made from Mojang,4J,or Flashplayer make the mods it is the people that want to alter Minecraft with brand new things if we want to get mods on Xbox 360 edition we need somebody to step up and make the mods a copy for the Xbox 360 edition what we need is a hero
Thank you for posting this topic by the way. It has brought out some interesting conversation for me to involve myself in. I have not tried to offend anyone that has posted in here but merely state my opinion and some facts. Bottom line is some people in general get worked up over what things are labeled as and its entertaining to read some of peoples opinions. Once again thank you sir.
I think what you are trying to say is that microsoft will never let the gamers mod the games. Only the companies that create the game.
exacly, every mod would have to go through cert testing, seriosuly who can be bothered testing millions of mods?
and people who download mods themselves get banned
Silly IMO, like I've said before... Minecraft is Mojang and 4J's buisness. Why wouldn't they want to see what people have done to their game and see what people are wanting added to it. Considering 4J is a very smnall studio, I don't expect them to look up a thread, see some person vaguely talking about something, then go searching for it. They already have jobs to do, which people already whine they don't do fast enough.
In regards to them finding out what people want, they already know. People constantly email, message, tweet, yell at them, etc, etc. they know what people want from the PC and also use what is popular in PC mods to get an idea of what to make for the Xbox 360. They stated that at Minecon last year.
Again, I'll say my view on it. People shouldn't just make an entire thread that holds a single sentence saying "I want ___". They should actually put ideas down. Maybe why they want to see it. What it could be used for in the game. What it would add to gameplay. How it would crafted if it's an item. Where it would generate if it's an npc or piece of terrain.
It is common knowledge that the game doesn't have much memory to work with and the smallest hings can make it lag. So instead of someone saying they want all of something like Tekkit, why not pick a few things out instead? List them in detail. Help 4J understand why you want it. Don't just make a thread that has a sentence stating "I want Tekkit!"
again wisdom flows from your words mustache, 4j has 200k follows on twitter constantly spamming them with questions, if you want to be heard you will have to be extremly lucky, or you needs thousands of people to back you up, good luck with that
I understand that 4J is a small studio but they could always make it larger if they wanted. Based on the main MC website they have sold 9,718,830 copies of MC just on the PC/MAC alone...selling a staggering four million copies in just five months when it came to the 360.. so ya thats a lot of copies.. and from seeing the price of 26.95 as the price that comes out to be like $369722468.5 ... Just saying its not like the money isn't there to pay someone to go check the stuff out. Based on the 360 sales alone it made $107,800,800 million.
On a personal note I think their timing with the updates is fine. As far as picking a few things out of something out there when people say they want tekkit maybe its cause they want the whole thing and not just parts of it. Maybe picking out a few parts of it won't work properly without other parts that are needed to go together (I never played tekkit so not sure what goes with what). I also understand the memory issue. Hence this may not be an issue soon after they announce the new system at E3 this year. I said before in another post we may get a whole new minecraft on the new system and maybe they won't add anything to our current game after this next update. Maybe thats why they are talking about putting it in disc form up to TU9.. maybe this will be the last 360 version we get and it will all go to the new system. Regardless of what they do...they made a ton of money on this game and I believe they will make more on it wether it stays on the 360 or goes to a new system.
Edit: my bad I misread it was $20 on XBL.. at 4 mil sold... so like $80,000,000
Here's how I see it, in regards to updates, mods, and DLC:
* Update. This is nothing more than a mod or DLC that everybody gets for free. (Yea!) They "extend the game(play)", add new features, and make the game more "interesting". There's only 2 things "wrong" with updates: that everybody gets them, and we really don't have much of a choice about whether we want it or not. You can put it off, but eventually you'll have to upgrade.
* DLC. Sanctioned additions or changes to the game, like how more skins or texture packs are. You want more, you pay more. (I have no problem with that). In the future this can include stuff like different mobs or NPC's, larger villages, etc. Again, they "extend" the game(play) and make the game more "interesting". But that comes at a cost ($$$). The big problem I see is if everyone playing doesn't have the same particular DLC- will everyone playing that session be able to "see or use" it, or no one? Anyway, DLC is great- it'll be checked by the developers, guaranteed to work correctly with the game, contain no viruses, and will be officially supported.
* Mods. Basically a mod is no more than the two things above. They still extend the game and make it more interesting. But there are 2 big differences though: first, a lot of them let you cheat, or at least do some things a much easier way. Shortcuts, if you will.
But the biggest thing is they give you the feeling that you have customized the game and that now your game is different from anyone else's. And nowadays everyone loves for things to be customized just for them (and that goes double for MC for some reason). Like DLC, but unlike updates, you get to pick and choose, so you'll get that warm, fuzzy feeling from having a custom game. Remember that it's not the end result- it's the feeling that matters.
The problem is, as others have said, they'll never be 3rd party mods on consoles, much less the xbox. You can request state that you want them all you want, but no console maker is gonna let loose of their control to the masses, or loose the money.
Requesting stating that you want a PC mod is right up there with trying to blow out a flare. We don't know what's gonna happen in the future.
Oh well, I'd rather play the minecraft game than these word games anyway.
a mod is user made, you tell me 1 game the xbox allows a user made mod ??
mods and DLC are completely different, DLC is made by the company who make the game,
its not just a different name for the same thing !!
In a way, it is. All DLC is some sort of mod; however, not all mods are DLC. See what I'm saying? It's the old crow and bird analogy. They are essentially the same thing, the words themselves just took on a life of their own, thanks to the people that use them. Since people typically refer to a "mod" as an add-on created by some random user, devs like to avoid the word. They want to make their content appear different from a mod, perhaps even superior to mods. They need to make their product seem monumental; otherwise people aren't going to pay for it. Using words like "DLC", "expansion pack", or "scenario" is an easy way to make the content seem to be something bigger. If devs did use the word "mod" and you were scrolling through a list on the marketplace, seeing all these add-on titles with mod slapped on the end; it would catch your attention if one of the labels was instead referred to as an expansion pack.

Explain, then, one difference between mods and DLC besides the fact that one is community made and the other is developer made.
