I just want to toss this out there, because I feel somewhat strongly about this. It is, in my opinion, technically impossible to request a mod for Minecraft 360, at least in the way I've seen topics locked for it (my own included.) What I've done (and seen done) is request that some mods be added to MC360 as DLC. Now, yes, the way its worded sounds fishy, but I posted the topic with the small glimmer of hope that 4J would see it and maybe implement the idea. Now let's say they did, and now Mo' Creatures is on the marketplace as DLC. I fail to see how this qualifies as modding an Xbox game. At that point, regardless of the fact that PC users still have to load and reload Mo' Creatures as a mod, as far as the Xbox is concerned, it has become an officially supported add-on for the game, regardless of it's origins. Now, if someone were too say, "Gee, SheerANONYMOUS, could you take Better Than Wolves and find a way to make it work on the Xbox?" That is requesting a mod. Someone is going to a third party and asking them to mess with the game's programming without the knowledge or consent of 4J Studios, Mojang or Microsoft. Maybe it's just me, but it feels like that difference couldn't be more obvious if you lit it up with a neon sign.
So, long story short; Saying "I want [whatever mod] added as DLC" is not requesting a mod, it's requesting DLC.
There are multiple reason as to why we do not allow requesting mods anymore.
There are hundreds of mods for PC, and more are created each and every day. If 4J was to see your suggestion, we'll use "Red Power" as an example here, and see someone's thread like:
I would like Red Power to be added to the game.
What is red power? How does it work? What does it do?
We cannot expect 4J to play the PC, nor can we expect them to know what each mod does 100%.
Same with Tekkit, Feed the Beast, and Technic. Yes, those are mods packs, but it's asked for constantly. They have loads of mods in the packs, loads of features, and most of the time, people do not expand on what they want. It's simply "I was such-and-such mod."
It is easier, and simpler to request a feature then simply a "mod".
A lot of times, requesting mods falls under several "no's" we have for the section: Wishlists, and vague suggestions.
We want your suggestions to be as clear and easy to make out as possible if 4J happens to read them.

You are requesting a mod as DLC. No matter how you try to slice it, if someone is asking for Tekkit, they're asking for a mod, regardless of whether it is in DLC form or not. The word mod should just not be used when discussing a console game.
The discussion forum is also the wrong place to ask for DLC or a mod anyways. That is what they made the suggestion forum for.

That's fair enough. Though, as far as 4J knowing what the mod does or not being too vague, what if one were to include a link to the original mod (massive multi-mods like Tekkit non-withstanding)?

Maybe so, I can accept that it could still be considered a mod given it's origins. However, the rules say not to request mods because mods violate the Xbox ToS. Regardless of what, say, Towny or Tekkit are or were, being officially released through the Xbox Marketplace by 4J Studios as DLC negates that issue. That is my point.
Also, I'm aware this isn't the place to request DLC. However, this is a statement, not a request, so it just seemed to fit better here.
I'm reminded of a little kid screaming in a department store "I want a toy!" over, and over, and over, and over in the hopes that mommy will get tired of hearing him and finally give in.
As others have said, any changes, additions, or ideas that you have for the program, the Suggestion forum is the place.
Will there be "officially released through the Xbox Marketplace by 4J Studios" DLC? Of course! The "finished, complete, and finalized" game is coming out on disk shortly, so the only way to add to it is by DLC.
But something tells me you're not gonna like them… at all…. simply because they'll be "different" than what you're daydreaming of, and they'll be a lot fewer in number than you think they should be.

DLC == mod. It's just a fancy term they slapped on the content because "mod" became a bad word somewhere along the lines. (Especially on consoles, where people think of auto-aim, trigger bots, wall hacks, and various other mischievous abilities.) When content is called a mod, it is usually created by someone within the community, but it's essentially the same thing. Developers call the additional content they release an "expansion pack" or "DLC", the main difference is that "mods" typically must be non-profit content. The community-based creators can accept donations, use bit.ly URL shorteners, etc. but are not allowed to monetize the content itself.
As for the OP: I am almost 100% certain we will get DLC at some point. Be patient, I cannot stress these two words enough. The main concern at 4j Studios is to get MCXBLA to the equivalent of MCPC's 1.2.3, which isn't too far away anymore. After that point, nobody knows what will happen, but I'm personally guessing that we will see a large amount of DLC released over the sequential months. Will this DLC be exact duplicates of the PC mods you are wanting? That's very doubtful, but I'm positive they will take inspiration from some of the more popular mods. When they do start to develop DLC, they will want popular ideas that sell. I'm sure they would love to implement things like IndustrialCraft or RedPower 2, because it would turn a huge profit. What I'm not sure of is if the Xbox 360 could even handle such add-ons.
Well on another note with microsoft suppose to be unveiling the new console at E3 this year I kinda wonder 4J is even considering doing anything past MC 1.2.3 for this system. They might just hold off till the new xbox arrives and release a whole new version of the game or maybe they will release MC up to 1.2.3 as soon as it comes out and then continue working on whatever new direction they want to take it. Just something to consider... nothing I have said has been confirmed to my knowledge other then the unveiling of the new console.
Although the game maybe backwards compatibale with the new system also like some of the games were from the original xbox to the 360 so I could just be blowing smoke.
I just don't understand how people think it's as simple as 4J deciding to "take over" someone's mod and add it to the game renamed as DLC. 4J can no more legally just take someone else's program and sell it than modders could take the vanilla game and market that independently along with their mod. Also, for each and every one of the 100s of mods out there for the game, there is, I'm convinced, at least one post requesting that it be added to the Xbox edition. It really doesn't need to be rehashed 1000 times. The requests seem to me to be a concerted effort to "force" open source principles onto the Xbox, which is one of the most closed source environments in the entire tech world. I agree with the moderators of this forum. This forum should not be allowed to become the battleground for this war between "open source" and "closed source" philosophies. As Kiori Bug stated, the suggestion forum is always available for people to request specific features... short of requesting that 4J just take over someone else's mod.
I'm reminded of a little kid screaming in a department store "I want a toy!" over, and over, and over, and over in the hopes that mommy will get tired of hearing him and finally give in.

As I have already stated, THIS IS NOT A REQUEST, IT IS A STATEMENT Go back to school and learn to read, if you cant already. This thread isn't even two pages yet, it's not that hard to read down the posts before you open your mouth. And the only mod/DLC i would expect to match the PC version would be Mo' Creatures, at least to a certain extent. Yeah, a lot of stuff would be different. I requested Towny in the suggestions thread, and there is no way in hell I expect that to be identical to the PC counterpart.

I'm sure the Xbox could handle some things. When I had started this topic, I hadn't really had large-scale packs like Tekkit in mind, I was thinking more along the lines of Mo' Creatures, Better Than Wolves or even the Airship mod.

While I may never have specifically stated this, the idea was that 4J would contact the original creators for permission.

While that may be possible in some circumstances, from a legal perspective, the question may be a bit grayer than even that would suggest. Modders do enter into a modding agreement with Mojang first that, from what I've read online, might transfer the "right" to use the mod within the PC vanilla version of the game to Mojang directly. Whether or not this would apply to the Xbox variation of the game may be a tricky legal question. There are also 3 separate companies involved in the porting arrangment - 4J, Mojang and Microsoft; and as I stated previously, Microsoft are probably more into closed-source type thinking than other computer company worldwide. Personally, I wouldn't blame any corporation for proceeding very, very cautiously in this regard.

The main problem is trying to get the community for Minecraft Xbox to move away from the word Mod. Yes, things could be changed to "DLC" but again, the main factor is "modding" when it comes to Xbox 360 as a system.
Like I stated above also, to keep suggestions clear and easy to understand, requesting a "mod" isn't the best way to go about it.
Minecraft forum's staff, and 4J are also unrelated. The staff here has no direct connection with MCX360. The staff here just abides by the rules just as much as the users do.
In order for us to provide an environment where 4J can discuss the game, and interact with the users, we need to follow Microsoft's rules.
This is the number one reason. We want 4J here just as much as you guys do. We don't want anything to set off alarms with Microsoft and for them to pull 4J out of this community.
When we changed the forum structure for the "Other Platforms" section, we set in a few new rules (which all sections are linked below in my signature). We did add the rule for requesting mods.
Do not encourage modification
Please do not encourage or detail how to perform modifications to the Minecraft: Xbox Edition game as modifications of the game is against the Xbox Live Terms of Use.
Do not request mods
Do not request mods or ideas for mods in this section. Modifications to the Minecraft: Xbox Edition is against the Xbox Live Terms of Use.
Both of these are in place so that 4J can participate in conversations. The wording can use some work, but essentially it's the same thing. Our community, the MCX360 community, need to step away from the word "Mod" all together.
Linking also would not do any good. Again, the big issue also with requesting mods is they create wishlists. When users create wishlists, sometimes other ideas outshine the other, and sometimes are forgotten. We want every idea to have an equal shot. This is why we allow you to make multiple topics for multiple ideas.

If you want more creatures, why not list out what creatures you want? If you want better the wolves, why not list what you like? If it has more then one feature, then go a head and make multiple topics.
It may seem we are lock happy, we're not trying to be. Locking threads has also declined since our shift to the new forum structure. Suggestions sections just happens to see a lot of the locking now because of "mod requests".
Where as I respect the rules of the forums I am finding this quite amusing that people would get so uptight over verbage. Mod...DLC...Addon... who really cares... does one over the other really make your day that upset? Are people seriously that anal and childish over words?... grow up. the end.

Remember, we live in times where someone can spill hot coffee on themselves that they just got from a restaurant, and be able to successfully sue (with a settlement in their favor) the restaurant. Common sense can be a wonderful thing if people are willing to apply it, Mod=DLC on the 360, only difference is a DLC is made by the company that made the game, and a Mod can be made by a 3rd party. They both modify the original game source code, but people just throw up a stink about modding because there are those that take it too far... (Sims 2 child marriage mod comes to mind)

Yes indeed. These seem like silly and sad little times we live in. I just take things as they come. Make suggestions here and there. I don't ever really bicker about the silly stuff. I understand the whole verbage difference between mod and DLC.. just seems like a ridiculous issue for people to make a stink about. Its the same damn thing just done by different people. It personally doesn't bother me if its called DLC or a Mod... its all the same... its just a label. People label stuff way too much these days just to have a reason to gripe it seems. Think I'm done with this topic until something of real value or interest is brought to attention. Have a good day all.
edit: On the note of labels I remember when music had only a few categories... Rock, Rap, Country, Other lol. Now days they wanna make everything so technical.. industrial... indie rock, classic rock, etc etc etc... its like wow way to complicate things.

So, do you think it would be acceptable for a company to just take/copy DLC written by someone else and market it under their own name? Is that just being silly about how it's being labelled or is that asking people to consider asking for individual features rather than asking 4J just to just copy entire mods created (and therefore owned) by someone else?

Alright, that explains about everything as far as the rules are concerned. Terminology aside I still say that 4J releasing a PC mod through the Marketplace is not the same as modding as far as the Xbox ToS is concerned, but, whatever. At least the reasoning behind it makes sense now, so thanks

I think you may have missed his point. What you're talking about here is flat out copyright infringement, but he is saying that it's just silly how people get so crazy about terminology between "mod" and "DLC". And, as I said in an earlier post, I would expect 4J to contact the original creator before releasing the mod as official DLC.
So, do you think it would be acceptable for a company to just take/copy DLC written by someone else and market it under their own name? Is that just being silly about how it's being labelled or is that asking people to consider asking for individual features rather than asking 4J just to just copy entire mods created (and therefore owned) by someone else?
You are talking about copying things.. I'm talking about the way things are labeled. If 4J copied a mod/dlc and changed the name of it then it would still be the same mod/dlc but with a different label. Which to me would just be pointless..if you are gonna copy something why bother changing what its called. Its still the same. Now if 4J copied a dlc/mod and made changes to it then it would just be an updated copy of thus said dlc/mod which should remain with the same title.
DLC= DownLoadableContent... key word here is content and by definition.. "The things that are held or included in something." (taken from google search for "content definition"). so thus being said a mod (short for modification) is what would be held or included (by definition) in the DLC. Thusfore making either term being used the same in the aspect of these forums.
So on another note every update that is given to us via XBL is in fact a modification (or update) of the game done by 4J because things have been added or changed from the official original release.
You are talking about copying things.. I'm talking about the way things are labeled. Now if 4J copied a dlc/mod and made changes to it then it would just be an updated copy of thus said dlc/mod which should remain with the same title.
What I'm suggesting is that there is a slightly deeper reason than just mere labeling for the moderators on this forum to ask that posters refrain from just continually demanding that certain mods by name be added in their entirety to the Xbox. Xbox is not open source, has never been open source, and is unlikely to ever become open source... regardless of whatever the lovers of the PC-style mods call these community-created modifications to a commercial game's code. It may well be that the 3 companies involved in MCXBLA may eventually be able to negotiate agreements with some of the makers of certain mods to add them and market them as DLC; but those are probably private and confidential business matters to be sorted out among the parties involved. It may also well be the 4J will be compelled to come up with their own unique ideas for DLC add-ons to the game itself.
So, long story short; Saying "I want [whatever mod] added as DLC" is not requesting a mod, it's requesting DLC.

So on another note every update that is given to us via XBL is in fact a modification (or update) of the game done by 4J because things have been added or changed from the official original release.
