I found my very first dungeon-fort (with the stone moss and iron fence) today while I was diamond mining!!
I still haven't entered into it because I got too scared and decided I should get some armor first. Any first-hand tips before I enter this place tomorrow? I'm purposely not searching anything about it so it will be a completely new thing for me, haha
You found a stronghold. Congratulations.
Bring a diamond sword, Iron armor, Pickaxe, Shovel, Stack or 2 of torches, and some food that'll last you an hour. When I see strongholds, I see more mobs than a normal cave. Good luck.
sounds like the Stronghold, thats the only place I know where iron railings appear with stone bricks
they aren't that dangerous really, unless you get swarmed by the silverfish.
they have a spawner in the end portal room and will start breaking out of the stone blocks to get you. A couple of hits with a sword will kill a silverfish
you may also come across regular mob spawners in the stronghold also, zombies etc.
Oh, stronghold, haha thanks for correcting that. I have some diamond I was saving up for armor so I'll definitely make myself diamond armor and a diamond sword. I ran out of food so I'll have to go food hunting

I remember my first Stronghold. It was when I was cave diving, I was low on food and low on health... and well... I wish I could tell you I fought the good fight, and the mobs let me be. I wish I could tell you that, but Strongholds are no fairy-tale worlds, I never knew which mob did it, but everyone knew it was the enderman. Things went on like that for a couple more times, Minecraft life consists of death, and then more death. Every so often I would respawn again, and the mobs kept at me, sometimes I was able to fight them off, and... well... sometimes not. And thats how it went for me, that was my death. I do believe those first few visits were the worst for me, and I do believe if things had gone on that way, that place would of gotten the best of me.

- Normal Gear such as
+ Iron armor

+ Enough Torches
- Collect Iron Bars, They become useful at some point In minecraft.
- Bring a bucket of water.
- I would bring lava (Personally)

Why do you bring lava?
lava is a good way to block a passage while you search the other way or to clear a path if you run into multiple creepers or something. I have even pour lava down steep caves then picked up the source block and followed the lava down as it dissipated mining as i go. magic... no more badies.
I tend to avoid breaking the blocks in and around strongholds as much as possible due to silverfish, so I'm really just in there to find the chests, collect iron bars and doors, and locate the end portal room for when after the End comes. I then promptly destroy the silverfish spawner. Other than that, I move quickly, placing a lot of torches to slow down the spawning of the other mobs. When I've cleared areas of their chests and iron and confirmed a dead end, I block those passages with double high fence, so that I know I don't have to go back down those halls and any mobs that spawn in those areas can't get beyond the fence (I use this same tactic in Abandoned Mineshafts).
