In all of my experiences, wolves don't really live very long... I've stopped taming them because they only get in the way. I'd keep them as a pet if I could, but it's just a real pain when they TP to you.

Why are you giving your wolves toilet paper? Just stop giving them toilet paper and they wont TP you :3
I take the 100+ wolves I have for a stroll to go kill everything. Healing thems not a issue because I feed them the rotten flesh dirty meat and they regain health.
They mostly get in the way, and don't really help all that much. If they attacked enemies without you having to attack them first, then I would take them everywhere.
