I love exploring new seeds, which means I spend a lot of time looking for recommendations from various forums and Google searches. After reading countless posts from people suggesting seeds to each other, I've noticed a pattern that I just don't understand.
"Check out this seed! I found diamonds on the FIRST DAY!!!"
"BEST SEED EVER!! Two stacks of diamonds!"
"Perfect seed! Diamond and gold coordinates!!" (Disclaimer: I made up these titles to illustrate a point. They're a representation of the types of thread titles/posts I see, not actual thread titles/posts. Any similarity to actual titles/posts is purely coincidental. No offense intended.)
The estimates vary slightly, but based on the posts I've read about the subject, every single seed contains well over ten thousand diamonds. Posting about a seed just because it contains diamonds (or gold, or "tons of iron", or clay) seems pointless. EVERY seed has all of those things, it's just a matter of finding them. Just find a cave that goes down near bedrock (not hard to do even on survival) and wander around for a bit. Bam, diamonds. I mean, I can understand posting about a seed if it has, for example, a surface ravine next to spawn with a huge deposit of diamonds visible from the entrance, but just finding diamonds while digging around is not enough to qualify a seed as "awesome".
Am I missing something, or do people just think that diamonds are more rare than they actually are?
they are kids who live off diamonds then probly dupe them tbh i dont care about diamonds
i swear they are treating them like real diamons like they worth heaps of money

It seems hard to find diamonds if you don't know where to look, however things like Clay, Pumpkins, Dungeons above ground, and Awsome Neathers, are the types of seed that I think are Awsome. I have over two stacks of diamond on my world right now, and I am going to have to delete the world soon because it doesn't have a proper Fortress

no there is a reset neather update in tu9 you wont need to restart your would just restart your neather
I think different people are interested in different things. i've seen requests for coordinates on all sorts of things - spawners, mineshafts, melon seeds, pumpkins... In some seeds, diamonds can seem very easy to find,; in others it seems to take a bit more work. I have seen some Let's Play videos where even some very good players have had a hard time finding them. I remember one video made by Paul Soares Jr. where he eventually resorted to branch mining to find enough diamonds to build an enchanting table. Some people do like to get right into stuff like enchanting early on in a game and need a diamond pickaxe to get the obsidian to craft it.
I think there are probably more seeds on the seeds list that list "epic" hills as a feature, even though I've hardly ever generated a seed without at least a few extreme hills somewhere on the map. All in all, I think the forum eventually gets a pretty good variety of seeds listed for each update.
Although I agree, diamonds aren't the be-all and end-all of Minecraft, I'm sure we have all encountered people who determine the skill of players on the number of diamonds they have accumulated. They place more value in the diamonds than is actually there.
It's just like players of other xbox games that think being highest rank in Halo or having prestige-d many times in Call of Duty means they are elite pro gamers, regardless of their stats, when in actuality anyone can achieve those ranks if they collect enough Mountain Dew codes and play long enough. The same thing applies to just about any other thing; a high K/D ratio makes them feel like a really skilled player, even if they sacrifice their team to ensure their K/D, or people playing Pokemon obsessing over shiny Pokemon/legendaries/etc.
Personally I'm only interested in finding enough diamonds for my pick and chant table. Ordinarily I will explore a cave as deep as it goes and then mine myself to diamond depth. From there I just tunnel around and either usually hit a vein or will find another, deeper cave that will most likely have exposed diamonds. I usually don't go intentionally diamond hunting until I have developed a few of my base items first.
Those kind of seed threads are the ones I usually ignore because usually they don't even put in features like what the biomes are like or general look.
When something has only just a bunch of coordinates to various resources or object only, then I find it less tempting to even attempt to load those seeds to see for myself. Terrain in the very least should be mentioned even if it is a couple lines. But that is my opinion after all, since I for one don't have much trouble find them, I just take long getting to them. Soooo easily distracted by the inspiration I get from this or that when building...lol
Of course if someone ever gets bored of terrain much, then they aught to attempt to find the type of seed I am looking for... Trust me it is not an easy one to find and quite a challenge, as i myself am still looking for it...:D
I've been using this one seed for a while. I have a vast system of tunnels. I've gone through at least five iron pickaxes. I've been to the bedrock and back at least five times. I have huge amounts of ore and almost more cobblestone than I can store in two chests.
I don't use seeds off the list but I do get excited when I get Diamonds, my 2nd survival world I was really annoyed because I found a deep cave that lead to a Mineshaft that also lead to a ravine and only came across 2 diamonds!!! Too me getting Diamonds means I can get to the Nether which in turn gives me access to Glowstone and Netherrack, which I use quite a bit in my builds for light sources. I made a 3rd survival world and have been able to fins about 35 diamonds, needless to say, I'm a happy camper now!

You do realise you do not need a diamond pick to get the Nether?? You can form obsidan either with just buckets and waste the lava or you can use redstone to save your lava

I have a friend who keeps track of how he does on the leaderboards. He likes to brag about how fast he has access to everything when he starts a new world. I would guess that quick, easy access to diamond would help him achieve something like that.

The Nether reset option is for worlds that created before there was a Nether Fortress. It allows them to reset their Nether to get a Fortress in it.

Sorry I didn't mean a Neather fortress, I ment my stronghold doesn't have a portal room, so when TU9 comes out ill need to make a new world

Not a single, bloody diamond to be found.
I need to start making my tunnels wider.
