i've checked the wiki, i've looked through the forum.. all i've seen is "redstone doesn't work on xbox".. but, it does.. sort of..
has anyone written down the rules for xbox redstone?
i'm trying to have a series of sticky pistons whose native state is closed and a few who are open, and they all change position when activated by a single pressure plate.
i see a lot of redstone tutorials on youtube, but they are all tagged xbox, and they have all been on MCPC.
anyone know of an xbox redstone tutorial that is actually done on the xbox?
Most do work on Xbox. Redstone works.. wonderfully. We just have a couple missing pieces that most have found work-arounds for.
And what you are trying to do or describing is rather simple... Just use a couple redstone torches to keep the ones you want extended extended and the single pressure plate will close those and open the others..With the usual redstone trickery.

i can get the torch and following circuitry to turn on and off, but the pistons after the repeater diode are stuck in the on position, regardless of state. if i remove the torch, it retracts...
i've been trying to wrap my head around this for a couple days now. it's a little embarrassing how much trouble i'm having with it.
this is how you reverse the flow of the "power" Pressure plate here---> ~~~~~~~~~
the flower is redstone torch ATTACHED to the side of the block... so the piston will be in the on/extended position..
when the power hits the dust ( ~~~~ ) itll then turn them to the off/retracted position, by reversing the flow.

Google inverted redstone signals. In many redstone circuits, part of the circuit needs to be inverted (typically by placing a redtone torch on the side of a particular block) in order to have certain aspects off while others are one, all while still being in the same circuit.
I would bang my head against the wall for hours trying to figure redstone out because everything was powered and it should have been working properly (in my mind) but wasn't until I saw some youtube video tutorial on inverting a redstone signal.

Elevators built in PC do not work on xbox. Very bummed about this.
Not true, it is probably just the type of elevator you are trying to build. One of my friends has built an elevator on the xbox so it is possible, it may just need to be of a different layout than you are trying to use.

Mine does.
This one works at least 9 times out of 10. Just set all of the repeaters to their max setting of 4 ticks. It's the only way to make it slow enough for the Xbox 360 to keep up with all of the redstone and moving pistons.
i got it to work outside of my structure.. i must have a wiring problem.
so full of boggles.

i have removed every block around a sticky piston i placed and some block somewhere is still supplying power. it openes and closes when the circuit is turned on and off.
wherever that block is, i'll find my short. grrrr.
Pfffftttt, writing down the rules of redstone. I'll do you one better, voice commentary explaining the laws and "true" mechanics of the essence of redstone and the effects which its conduits apply. The first video is for absolute n00bs who know nothing at all about redstone. The second episode ventures a bit deeper and discusses the actual laws of redstone. No rough explanations, no wondering why a certain item defies what you've previously heard, everything is filtered down to an absolute science.

Ah yes I've seen these viddies before. I found them to be quite help, redstone noob or not. I've made my younger players who want to build in my world watch them, just so they THINK about what they are going to build. I'm always amazed when I goto a random players world and get blown away by how they've used redstone materials . Like the dancefloor that was lit with redstone repeaters and was fully programmable .
i had a run of dirt with dust on it, a 1 block gap and the sticky pistons. they were being powered through that 1 block gap.. how does that happen? wishes and miracles, i suppose. i tried to use a run of glass as an insulator (thanks videos ), but it didn't work.. moving the top wire worked, but now i have slight issues with a less critical piston.. i don't care, i step on the pressure plate and it throws me in the water.. hurray! lava cage battle arena. <3

Detection items are very unique and act much differently than other redstone tiles. And pistons differ largely from all other detection items and come with many perks, sometimes wanted, other times... not so much. This is why my next video (which has been extremely delayed now) will focus entirely on piston logic, as it is such an expansive topic. It is not entirely imbedded in Redstone Theory, but it is a very fundamental branch; something I like to call "Mechanical Redstone Theory"
Generally it works well but there is some strange lag on startup (My own speculation about this lag) that causes numerous game issues with everything. From Redstone, to vanishing animals, etc..

My theory on this still stands, though I'm pretty sure you're not looking for an explanation this time. The thing I've noticed about this specific glitch (corrupted blocks) is that it's not relative to lag at all. I've built fairly small mechanisms that have failed due to corruption; at the same time I have operated massive machines without an issue.
As a bonus, I have proof of this in a video. 128 different mechanisms running in unison through parallel logic, though not all of them being utilized. Sequential to this is another 80 working simultaneously, and the sequence repeats with different operands. This doesn't even include the decoders, control bits, and other automatic logic that could fail and result in breaking the machine. The sequence was repeated several times throughout the video; it's pretty much just the luck of the draw when it comes to block corruption.

Ahh yes, the +1 detection range. I wanted to wait until the next video to talk about that, as the extra range itself would probably add another 5 minutes to the video. x_x Basically, a piston can detect a receiver in this area, but will not activate instantly. This brings about some interesting mechanics of the piston, one of those extra perks I mentioned. It can be extremely useful, but a nuisance at the same time. It turns the piston into a block update detector. When a reception occurs in the +1 detection range, the piston will extend when a block update happens in an adjacent tile. This could be a door opening, wheat/melons/etc. growing, redstone wire activating, a furnace turning on, even a player placing or breaking a block.
EDIT: Don't be embarrassed about how your redstonery looks, we all have to start somewhere. You should see some of my work, from merely a year ago. It most likely looks ten times worse than anything you could throw at me. It's not like I saw redstone for the very first time and said "Hm.. I think I'll build a computer with this." Anyway, as a newer redstone engineer, all you really need to be worried about is functionality. You will discover ways to make things neat and compact as you gain experience in the field. Optimization comes naturally through practice in this genre of building.

The only time they won't work is when they require unimplemented items or mechanics. Most PC designs do work on MCXBLA. However, this was not the case a few months ago.
