I think it's great if they decide to branch out to different platforms! More funding to them means better things to come for us. If they made it available for the Wii, I'm sure that crowd would eat it up.
Ports of games are always a good idea. More people get to play them that way. Minecraft couldn't be expected to stay 360-exclusive for consoles if you follow the industry at all. Microsoft generally throws money at developers/publishers to get a limited time exclusivity, and Mojang/Notch would never give them full exclusivity, especially with how well it sold on Xbox.
As for the port itself, it'll probably be a different team, but 4J is third-party so maybe not. If they port the 360 Edition, it will probably be from where they are version-wise at that point. If someone else does it, they'll pick start where the PC version is like 4J did. Either way, the amount of time it takes will make the PS3/PS4 fairly out of date on release just like 360 Edition was.
Also, if the rumors of digital stuff not transfering to the new Playstation are true, it'll could be PS4 exclusive, but they'll sell a lot more if they port it to both. Even more if they also do a 720 update.
I reckon they should just start developing it on the playstation 4, with the tech they have on that bad boy, Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition (that name gets me excited ) will have infinite worlds, mods, texture packs, and many other PC features!
Im excited for the game to finally (HOPEFULLY) be released on the PS4 as my xbox 360 broke a few days ago , now i cant play Title Update 9.
And they could also create a Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition which could practically be the same as the xbox? 1000x1000 worlds same features and stuff like that!
Hope 4J Studios work on it! great company
It definitely won't come out for Ps3. Think about it, Ps4 is just around the corner, so not enough people would buy it to make it worth doing. Also, in an effort to be unique, Sony made Ps3 extremely hard to code games for.
I'm pretty sure if they have the skills to port Oblivion from the Xbox 360 to the playstation 3, that they can do the same with minecraft. Infact i'd put money on them already having a PS3 version that works.
But with Ps4 just around the corner, why would they?
What about... that PC version? And the handheld version...
Minecraft on the Xbox 360 had to be exclusive for a period of time before it could be released on another console based system. PC, Apple, and Pocket Edition are not console systems, and were therefore exempt. The console exclusivity is running out just in time to allow for Minecraft to be released on the Ouya console which will be released in June. YAY!
* Let's put this in perspective. Some are reveling in the fact that xbox MC has sold 5 million copies(!). But that's only 5 million copies. COD has sold over 40 million, and the Halos over 50 million. http://en.wikipedia....s#Xbox_360Yes, it's popular… but it ain't that popular. Sure, there's a few thousand vocal MC diehards here, but you have to look at the Big Picture. Yep, 5 million copies- but how many of those are still playing MC? Half, if that?
* It's been said that we have the "right" for it to be on every system so everyone can enjoy it. Uh huh. Put another way, let's get it on every system, totally saturate the market, and that way everyone will get bored of it much faster. Don't let supply outstrip demand or you'll kill it off.
*It's been out for a year. Every PC and xbox player that wanted it has it already. IF it came out on another system, what makes everyone think it will have the same sales numbers? There's no reason to buy it for the PS if you already have it for the xbox. The only people who would buy it is those PC players who have a PS only, or those "I want to play it on whatever system I feel like at the moment" nuts. It would be darn lucky to sell 2 million copies for the PS.
* Get real. The 360 and PS3 are dead… and it doesn't matter what the "installed base" is. ANY manufacturer/producer stops making the old model and pushes the new one as soon as it becomes available. (The only games coming out for the current systems are those that have been in works for years already.) MS and Sony will do everything in their power to get you to buy the new system- and every game developer will try to get you to buy their "new and improved" game. Just like the original xbox and PS, they'll succeed in selling you a new system, too. To think that MC will won't be radically changed/improved for the new system(s) is silly. Like it or not, it must change or die a slow death, replaced by the much better games coming down the pike.
This thread will make some funny reading a year from now.

Exactly, as soon as Ps4 is out, games will stop being made for Ps3. So why on earth would anyone port a game onto Ps3 when Ps4 is out in the next coming months?

that's not entirely true. Ps2 games still came out early last year. They will still probably make new games for the ps3 for years to come.
As for the topic. I knew even before mine craft was released that the game would eventually branch off. It is just a matter of when. I'm sure that if 4j or who ever works on the next console, will consider all business endeavors before moving forward. After all, the company needs to make a profit too.

First of all the Ps3 is not dead neither is the 360, Alot of people play them, and im sure alot of people dont have an xbox and want minecraft for the ps3, i pretty much only have one game for my xbox and that is minecraft, and i have Alot of Ps3 games that i still play, I am used to Ps3 controls and in all i would rather just play minecraft on the Ps3
The Ps1 was selling games 4 years into the ps2 life
The Ps2 was selling games 6 years into the Ps3 life
I expect the 360 and it's games to still be sold when the Nextbox comes out as compared to the original xbox it has sold over 3 times as many and is very popular unlike the original xbox.
Of course.
They'll keep making and selling CurrentGen boxes as long as they're profitable. Publishers will also continue to make "oldish" games that run on them. And they'll sell because they're cheap.
But we're talking MC here. We're talking the newer and better games for the new consoles. When I said the CurrentGen consoles are "dead" I meant that as far as the big game developers go. They're moving on. And MC must also. It just can't sit around, not being able to run on the NextGen machines. Sales will do nothing but dwindle to next to nothing. It now has a chance to reinvigorate itself, become better, more desirable, and, of course, be sold to you all over again (cause you just gotta have it).
This isn't a simple "we may come out with MC for PS". If so, a few of you would clap your hands and that would be it. But it's a possible PS version AND (no matter what) a whole new console(s) to play it on. This new situation is a Game Changer for everyone involved- you, Mojang, everyone.
I see it this way: There's some new roads being built called "freeways". You can continue to make and try to sell 30 mph cars if you want. Or you can begin making 70 mph cars. I realize that some of you will be perfectly happy toddling around in your 30 mph car that you're assuming will last forever… but Mojang isn't dumb. It's gonna make that 70 mph car. And you'll get one.
People must not have been here on the forums when the game was first released on the Xbox 360. There were at least a dozen, if not two dozen threads being created every day asking 4J/Mojang to put the game on the PS3.
People just need to deal with it. It's going to other consoles. Mojang is just waiting for their deal with Microsoft to end.
If the rumored price of both next gen systems is true, then I doubt many people will be rushing out to get one when they first release. People may have been able to afford an Xbox 360 and barely afford a PS3 when they first launched but times have changed in almost 10 years.
Both next gen consoles are rumored to be at or over $400 in price. That will stop a lot of people in their tracks these days when thinking about getting one. Hell, the only reason I'll be able to afford one is becauseI've been saving money for the past few months for which I've had to give up and sacrifice many things.

You apparently don't know that Sony was still producing PS2 consoles at the same time they were selling PS3s for the past 6 or 7 years. They've also still been making new games for the PS2 for the past 6 or 7 years even after the PS3 launched.

Sony just stopped production of new PS2 consoles in January of this year. So Mojang could make Minecraft for the PS3 and easily turn a profit.
While i somewhat agree that games are made for older consoles after a new one arrives, those 'games' are few and far between compared to the newer console. Also the profit margin begins to decline fairly rapidly as the install base of new consoles begins to rise.

Retired StaffI'm struggling to see the point you're trying to make here. Elaborate?
