oh wow!
i'd be interested in seeing your result.. i've just used the simple one-way teleport so far. how long was the passage in the nether?
the original tunnel i had linked was kinda long and confusing, you had to go up like 20+ blocks through a section i mined, follow a natural cave for another 50+blocks, then go up another 25 blocks until i hit a level where i dug straight to a third cave system, only 15 blocks through, then i had to turn left, and i dug a 2x2 tunnel 20+ blocks long, make your way down a narrow ledge (going back down about 30 blocks, and follow a cave until you hit a small cluster of glowstone and the portal was right there. Since then, i've cut a tunnel that goes almost directly to the glowstone cluster after you jump up 12 blocks.
If you want to check out my world, shoot me a msg on the 360, my GT is under my name, and i'll send ya an invite. The map is one i've been working on for over 4 months now, pure survival (for the finished product, giving tours it's loaded in creative and exited without saving).
My word you took the excessive route... the coordinates in the nether actually correspond in a way to those of the over world. 1 block in the nether = 3 blocks in the over world. Just divide your over world coordinates by 3 and match them up. Super simple.
I had tried that method before, but i kept getting the co-ords wrong, and it never worked, so i said screw it, and i'm doing it the way i described... it may take a while, but i've yet to see it fail... besides, doing it my way, the route kinda get's branded into your memory.

i'll take you up on this if i get a gold membership.. paying for online is why i bought a ps3 first and has continued to be the largest stumbling block for me using the xbox. i've been thinking of getting a pc version of MC instead of paying for xbl gold.
sorry to drag a short story off topic... thank you for the invite.
Ahhh... I've had a good time in the nether with my friend. We entered in it & got jumped by ghasts. Slowly as we fought the ghasts we began slowly making a gigantic cobblestone fortress. We've made a few more strongholds in the nether too just to make sure we can always have control.
I haven't gone into the nether on the current updates worlds yet, so I'll have to see what it holds.
In my older world--which had no fortress--I was spawned on top of a giant cliff side about 4 or 5 blocks from instant death... It's weird, how the spawning code works.
New updated world nether... Oh! What a great video idea!
I have since lined up row after row of Soul Sand in the corridors of the fortress simply to farm Nether Wart as potion making is one of my favorite things to do.
i went to do this today and realized i can't find a block of soul sand other than what was forced into the fortress with the netherwart.
my overworld has no desert biome, i wonder if that is related.
every other world i'm shoveling it out of the way and replacing it with cobblestone so i can run like a coward when a pack of ghasts come at me.
i have a lot of gravel, no soul sand. seed: taniquitel
if you load that seed, notice the 2 blaze spawners in the nether overworld, not too far from each other..
i thought packs of ghasts were bad.. packs of ghasts backed up by packs of blazes... some seriously challenging terrain.

I'm using ubergine's seed, "aubergine"... and connected the two blaze spawners by a diagonal corridor with the XP trap at the midpoint. That entire part of the nether fortress is now stone brick. I will eventually create a netherwart farm there, as well as an enchanting room.
HEY question about nethers.. IF i destroyed 2 blaze spawners in the nether in one fortress and cant find no other fortress near.. am i screwed.. I was reading down the thread i see they are rare but i am a survivalist. but if any body can help me with this problem i would appreciate it much!
