I didn't see a thread on this after using search so I thought this might be an interesting topic...
What is your most favorite block?
Mine is dirt!
I love it!! It's so useful... you can destroy it quickly even with your bare hands, it serves as a marker for cave exploring, it is great for getting yourself out of holes, you can use it to make a tower to locate where you are, and I use it all the time for my terraforming projects.
Smooth stone for me... Faster to mine than cobblestone, with the same results. With silk touch though its only one step away from being stone blocks. Also my smooth stone generators seem to produce faster than my cobblestone generators (or maybe I've just put more effort into them).
Oh, I have a massive 10-way tie for my favorite block.
Mossy cobble, glass, spruce wood, wood planks (if we get different colored wood planks, I'm gonna be rocking spruce logs and birch planks all day), stone brick, nether brick, clay blocks, stone slabs, jack-o-lanterns, and glowstone.
Runner ups are redstone ore blocks and sandstone. Both make good floors. Smooth stone because it accents things nicely. Iron blocks and lapis blocks make cool touch-ups. I don't consistently build with any of those though.
Really, the ony blocks in the game I don't like are netherrack (outside of use as permanent fireplace), soul sand, and birch logs.
