Most of the time I stop playing the game it's because I feel that everything I'm doing in a world will just get deleted at the next update. Once an update comes through I don't play on old worlds. I was actually happier playing the game when it first came out and I didn't know about updates. I like the stuff that is added but not the way it gets drug out.
I would rather buy a 'new' minecraft every year for $20 bucks than feel like I'm playing a work in progress. Is this normal for a lot of games or what?
No, it's not normal for a lot of games. then again, Minecraft isn't a like other games. One of the best things about Minecraft is that it is always growing and changing. It wouldn't be anywhere near as popular if the way it constantly updates never happened.
Also, not all updates require you to start a new world. Take TU9 for example. Pretty sure the End will activate in old worlds that have an End Portal and beyond that, everything else will apply to old worlds since there is no new terrain. The new items, blocks, and features will all be available in older worlds when TU9 comes out.
I enjoy the updates. Let's me feel like I'm playing something fresh and new about every 2 months or so. Even faster on the PC.

Most other games provide updates to fix their screw ups or tweak the game because there's too many whiners.
The PC version of Minecraft has been slowly evolving for years now... and still updating the game. The 360 version I feel will most likely decrease it's updates as we near the next evolution of gaming consoles being released. There is only so much that can be done when the console cannot be upgraded... especially given the 360's 512Mb of RAM. I would guess that we have another year of updates on the 360 version before efforts are put solely towards the next gen console's version of Minecraft.
The updates will keep on coming. This is the advantage of the PC. When a new update comes, they just have to venture farther out, while we have to create new worlds.
Don't play indie games if you don't like playing 'a work in progress'

It's not as fun of an experience for me as it is for you. Minecraft is only fun if you have time on your hands. I rarely have time to play these days because of school and sports, etc. All of my worlds go to trash when a new update comes out, because I've had no time to do anything. Though, on the upside it provides me with more entertainment every time after not playing for a couple of days.

Well not every old world... At least not every one that doesn't go into creative first. After all even with the reset nether option, if that would work on my old world nether that is already in place, I still would not be able to go to the end. It is one map I don't even want creative to touch. Unless there is a survival way to build the end portal, then I don't see how I could even attempt such a thing. Not that I am hiped up about the end anyway...><
But at least I will be able to do a few other things for that world which is in the very least progress, albeit only a little more added in what I can do.:D

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.

Obviously if your world has no End Portal, you cannot go to the End. Any world created after TU5, should have access to the End provided their portal is still intact.
Everything else from TU9 will be available in all worlds. Provided you have the materials to take advantage of the new things. Like climbable vines. While it is possible for all worlds to have them, your world must first have vines. But all worlds can have them.

Get used to it, I remember after I got the game I loved the tutorial, and when the update that made major updates came out, I felt the same way. There won't be an end to updates, but, just remember there are good parts to updates as well as bad parts sometimes. If you want to know what is coming up, look at the pc version. That's an advantage to the Xbox, you get an idea of what's coming soon.

Acting like a creeper in your signature is too mainstream.

Well at least to a certain point. I mean they are suppose to have a talk with mojang after we get to pc equivalent 1.2.3, so after that who knows, as 4J has stated going their own direction. This does not mean that some of the pc stuff will not make it, but will mean that some of it will not make it for various reasons. It is already different from the pc version just for the fact of the way we craft things...
