I was playing on survival the other day and I decided to go find some doggies for my one dog at home, because she seems lonely. Anyways, I only had 8 bones in my chest so I took all of it with me. The first doggy took 2 bones to tame.
Then, while I was walking back with a smile on my face, I found another doggy and thought, "sweet!" I gave it a bone. No. Another bone. No. A third one. Nope. A fourth bone. Nil. A fifth bone. Poof. A sixth bone. Baowirhvab;woirbhqv;v!!
Is there any way to know which dog is going to take more bones to tame? Like, maybe their tails are not as high or something... Yeah, I could just get some more bones but, I usually play on peaceful so getting bones is no easy task as I have absolutely no combat skills; and usually end up dying just trying to get mob drops...
Oh, so it's random. I just happened to get the difficult doggy then.
I'd love to breed them but this is in my old worlds that I love, so breeding wasn't included yet
Okay, well thank you all for your help!!

You can most certainly breed animals now in an older world. It doesn't matter that there was no breeding when you first created the world. In this case, the AI of the animals would have changed each time the game was updated because it's not dependent on new terrain being added.

Like UpUp_Away95 said, you can breed in worlds. The only things that do not have an effect on older worlds are terrain updates. Everything else like breeding, items, new blocks that can be crafted, mobs, etc, can all be done in an old world.
