Yeah, look blaming consoles and aging PC's for "holding back games" - if they even are held back - is a flimsy argument. What holds back games is millions and millions of dollars, and financial risk.
Don't forget the ignorant sheep that buy the games. For some reason, too many people are content with playing the same drivel over and over again. Since the sheep eat it up, there is no reason for most developers to change or try new things. Why try new things or change when you have millions of people in your pocket already because they'll play anything with the words Call of Duty on it.
(Not trying to pick on Call of Duty, but it's the best example I can come up with aside from something like Madden. The small to almost non existent changes between each yearly iteration does not warrant a yearly release for one, and does not warrant a $60 price tag)
Oh good grief.
That sounds like the most important reason to get one of the new xbox's is so we can finally have The Most Important Thing In The Whole World!!! (bigger maps in Minecraft). Wow. If only MC had bigger maps it would be Perfect.
I would hate to see a sequel to this game, there isn't really anything they could do to make it better.
I dig Nose Job, he's one of my favorites here, but I had to stop reading after that line cause I was giggling so hard.
To think that there won't be a sequel is sticking your head in the sand. Why would they stop at just a "larger world" improvement? Now's their chance to improve everything- graphics, animation, add mod-like stuff, etc.
Someone said that the new xbox will run java- and reading between the lines that implies that we could finally have the whole PC version on the xbox. That's funny. What's so special about the PC version…. compared to what we're gonna have! Did the alpha players have any idea what MC would become when they started? MC (both the PC and xbox versions) isn't gonna sit still. Both are far from perfect, and there's lots of ideas in the works that we don't know about. Think: as much as you'd like it, they can't keep giving us updates for free. (Read between that line).
The ole line "You ain't seen nuthin yet!" comes to mind.
And it will be worth buying.

I don't necessarily think there won't be a sequel, I just hope there won't be. The beauty of indie games like this is that you get a slightly improved sequel with every update, for free. I know it won't work like this on Microsoft's console, thanks to their ridiculous fees. So there actually is a part of me that believes quite strongly that consoles will see a Minecraft 2, I just don''t want to accept it. Mojang could have dubbed a Beta version as the official release, then ceased updates and released the current version as "Minecraft 2" and watch everybody eat it up. But they didn't, they kept their integrity intact, a term that Microsoft can't even define.
They can already do everything you listed with the current Minecraft, to an extent. Texture packs for graphics, DLC for mod things. I wouldn't really want to see improved animation, or an overhaul of mechanics in general. I'm thinking a sequel would look something like this. I'm just afraid that a new version of the game may take away from the simplistic charm of the original Minecraft.

Any console running Java is pretty much laughable. You will never in your life see a triple A title that is coded in Java. I do believe XNA games can be coded in any language, since they're not completely under Microsoft's monarchy. But indie games don't really matter here. The point here is that a dev creating an intensive game would be foolish to use anything more abstract than C++, and they're only hurting their own sales.
I have to disagree with this to a certain degree.... The reason PC games are limited is because of consoles. I am primarily a console player, although I have a great gaming rig, so this is not biased but hear me out.
There are certainly many games that are PC exclusive, however those alone are not enough to sustain the PC gaming market, so there are the multi-platform games to make up for that. These games are developed along side the console version and in certain areas they are improved due to PC power, however the developers are not going to pour a lot of extra resources to make a superior version for PC, when they have 2 other platforms to cater to as well, so the versions result in being very close to the same.
And the comment that it is because of crappy computers that PC games are limited, console gamers face the same hurdles when a new generation of consoles come out. Oh, you want to play the new Xbox360 game, but you only have an Original Xbox? Time to upgrade. Same goes for PC. Don't have a good enough video card or enough RAM to play? Time to upgrade. If someone calls them self a PC gamer and that is their platform of choice, they will not have a "crappy" computer. It is the casual crowd that only plays games like Minecraft that have this issue, and Mojang wants to appeal to them as well.
Many PC gamer's along with myself have PC's that cannot even show their full capabilities because of the limited number of games that actually push it. That being said though, PC gaming can be very expensive if you want to stay ahead of the pack, but in reality, there isn't a need to, until there are more games that can make use of it, and I think we will start to see that during the next generation of consoles. PC and consoles are always neck and neck at the start of a new generation, but as time passes, PC begins to drift ahead, and that is inevitable when technology advances, but a device cannot be upgraded, such as a console. As time passes in a consoles lifespan, its all about how well the console's software can be optimized.
And consoles will never "overtake" PCs. In time, if the changes to current consoles are any indication, PCs and consoles will start becoming closer and closer to the same, as the line between what makes them so different from each other continues to blur.
Let's see though. I'm actually not referring to all games. Games like minecraft, yes I know that you can allocate the game more ram, but they have to fit the game into 256 mb of ram. We will not have to fit the game into a minimum of 256 mb, but 4096 mb of ram (4 gb of ram) so we will have more stuff. With the PC/Console thing, it might take over, not hardware wise, but price and performance wise, because for people that have to pick console or PC, with this next gen, it will be better hardware but the same performance for twice the price, or lesser hardware but same performance for half the price? I like any normal person would pick the one that has slightly lesser hardware for half the price. Think about it that way. Or even the lesser gaming computers, it would be the computer or the exact same thing but half the price.
Don't forget the ignorant sheep that buy the games. For some reason, too many people are content with playing the same drivel over and over again. Since the sheep eat it up, there is no reason for most developers to change or try new things.
