Hey guys,
just found an easy way to build a useful machine. and wanted to share it.
By using a dispenser with anything that doesn't shoot out of it you can place a wooden pressure plate three under it and place a cobweb in between these. I didn't exactly time it but if built right it seems to work pretty well.. Using this with T Flop's and repeating circuits could be quite useful instead of millions of repeaters. Message me on xbox i you want a demonstration GT: GlossyEyedGnome

Items take time to fall through cob webs, and its pretty well known how it works, by stacking more and more webs you can increase the time, but it requires maintenance, and must be a 5 min 'activation' as well. When the item makes it through the plate it will be roughly 5 mins before it will despawn, also its no good for anything over 5 mins as right now the item will despawn midway though, hopefully that will change in time.
If you chain and use repeaters and any type of flip flops so that they align so many flips you can get insanely long and 'accurate' timers. All in all cob webs are nice but i hate to maintain them and relies on item despawns which are not real reliable and accurate. Its good that you found it on your own thou.

Thanks for going a little farther in depth with it. I'm currently using it for an adventure map just so it saves spaces, as I know how build longer timers but most of which take up large amounts of space and for certain simple occasions this can do just what you need it to.
Thanks for your input man!

I use a piston to drop a mine cart onto a detector rail to avail de-spawning. I use it to control the walls on my Walls Map (the map needs to be reloaded between each play anyway, so this works for me).
Well thats the beauty of redstone, anyone can start learning it, once you know the basics its pretty easy to hook up and do simple stuff and it will eat up alot of space. The only thing that separates a redstone expert from others is that they have learned and can construct most gates and can compact designs. While many still will use 75 repeaters for a 1 min timer, others know how to do it without and can compact this pretty tight.

I think this exactly describes, the difference between understanding how to use redstone and how to use redstone efficiently. There are a lot of tutorials but I don't think any really go over everything well, so it really is you on your own trying to figure it out sometimes.
