I am thinking of adding an economy to my map, but the thing I'm stumped on is how much to charge for items.
I have already figured the currency system I will use
What I need help with is how much to charge for everything. How much for wood and stone, how much for the tools, how much for minecarts and accessories? Any and all help with this is appreciated.
i use time as the measure of value. in other words how much of a given item can i get in 15 minutes. a double chest of stone tools could be made in 15 minutes so low value but how much time does it take u to get a level 30 enchanted diamond sword? u have to create the enchantment table, get the xp, mine the diamond, bookcases for the table etc. so if you can mine 3 diamonds in 15 minutes or build a small house in 15 minutes or make a double chest of stone tools in 15 minutes then all those items have the same value. then there is a premium for items that are limited like diamond.
i found this one a while back when looking into this myself...
not sure if it really applies as currency can get pretty complicated if you really go into detail with it... relative values and whatnot aren't easy sort out.
I see I have nspired you cali Id make wood about 5 nuggets if its not processed. Stone about 1 nugget. Minecart 2 gold bars. However I dont know which accesories youre talking of

I'm just talking about all the little things like, switches, pressure plates, rails, maps, food, etc.
The problem with currency's like this is 1) diamond often becomes so expensive that you would need many stacks of iron/gold just for one ( or in the above example, 81 gold bars) and 2) diamonds and gold are used so much for tools/rails that they are not a reliable measure of wealth.
What I would reckomend is using a relatively useless item such as paper as currency, providing you prevent sugarcane farming. I used this on an rpg server once and it works great. You can set individual prices for each item so can develop a fair and balanced economy.
I see what you are talking about. Right now though I have my map on creative just to get everything built and I have a "bank" FULL of blocks of diamonds and gold.

1 gold nugget = $1 (9 gold nuggets = 1 gold bar/9 gold bars = 1 gold block/ 9 gold blocks = 1 diamond/ 9 diamonds = 1 diamond block)
