Where is this? When do we get these? What's the next thing we get? These are all questions I hear asked alot on the topic of the X-Box 360 version of Minecraft. What do these mean? Well, the askers want to know when some of the elements of PC Minecraft are coming to XBox Minecraft. This made me question something.
Is it worth it?
What do I mean by this? Well, is it worth it for players of Minecraft PC to buy Minecraft XBox? I did, but I'm starting to regret it. I mean, why spend your hard earned cash on an outdated version of a game you can just play on your computer? Plus, you can't even mod it! This makes no sense. Which brings me back to my question: Is Minecraft for the XBox 360 really worth it? Better yet, is it actually superior to the original game? Well, let's analyze each versions' segments individually.
Topic 1: DLC
This shouldn't come as a shock to anyone, XBox has DLC, or DownLoadable Content. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition features a variety of neat skin packs with some farmiliar faces. There are skins like Meat Boy from Super Meat Boy, Commander Video from Bit.Trip Runner, as well as a ton of other indie games. There are also characters from non-indie titles, like Chell from Portal, Reaver from Fable, and even Gordon Freeman! There are some other skins from no particular video game too, but they're nothing special. There are also skins from Minecraft itself (I always laugh when I see that it actually says "Minecraft" in the section where it says what game the character is from), with characters like Herobrine, Animal Men, Mobs, and even.... Enderman...Man...? Anyway, Minecraft on the PC doesn't really have any DLC, unless you count the snapshots, mods, and texture packs. However, Minecraft PC has the upper hand over the XBox version since its skins are free, and you aren't limited to just certain skins. However, the XBox has some pretty cool skins that you can't get in the PC version. If you want a prime example, look at Atlas and P-Body!
Obviously, we aren't getting mods for the XBox. But is there a chance we could get texture packs added on as a DLC? I would definetley buy them! Also, there's a chance maps could be added as well. There could be something like the Steam workshop where people post their Minecraft adventure maps! That would be amazing! And, this is a small chance, we could even get mods added on as DLC! This is, again, a very, VERY slim chance, but if Mojang were to allow it, it could probably work! Again, this is just my hopes and opinions, so don't be expecting Super Craft Bros: Xbox 360 Edition anytime soon. But I strongly feel that, if enough effort and time is put in to it, we could eventually get texture packs, and maybe even maps and mods, on the Xbox.
Topic 3: Updates and Patches
This is an interesting topic. My question is, will the Xbox version ever catch up with the PC version, and do we WANT it to? Well, let's take a look at the PC version. It's recent updates have MAJORLY changed the game mechanics. Bone meal, flaming zombies, rapid fire skeletons, the list goes on. So it's really a matter of opinion. Do you want Minecraft to continue changing, or do you want it to stay where it is? Do you want to spend multiple bone meal on one plant, or do you want to make bread in a breeze? Do you want to have the incentive to be cautious while fighting zombies in the morning, or do you want to hack at 'em without a care in the world? Again, whichever version you would want to play is all just a matter of opinion. Which brings us to our final topic....
Topic 4: Multiplayer
Both versions of Minecraft have great multiplayer compatibility. In the PC version you can find yourself a good server to play on, but I,for some reason, have trouble finding a multiplayer session on the XBox version. But that's just the online version! The split-screen is great! It's perfect for casual players, and it's so fun playing this with four players! The joy of the experience of playing Minecraft Splitscreen has only been matched by playing Kirby's Return to Dreamland with four players, and that's saying something. I think the XBox offers a great local multiplayer game, far superior to the PC version. If you want to play a local session of Minecraft on the PC version, it'll be tough if all of your friends wanna be in the same room. In the PC version's defense, I usually only play LAN worlds with one other person, but that's really not a good sign if you can only have a good time on a local game with only one other player.
My Opinion and Recommendation
Honestly, I prefer the PC version over the XBox version. However, I'll give the XBox this. It's much better for casual gamers. You can easily just grab a controller and join in on a game. I can recommend the XBox version to casual gamers who are just looking for a good time. And I'm sure the XBox version will become more polished over time. Hunger's already been added, so who's to say that they're stopping right there? I'll bet a new patch is already on it's way for the XBox! Well, that's all for this post. So what's your opinion on the two versions of Minecraft? Do you prefer the XBox or the PC? Why? Reply to this post telling me your opinion!
I think most of these are decent points, however I do disagree about calling this version to be the 'casual' friendly one. Yes, the menu's and interfaces are simplified from the pc version but that doesn't mean it's more casual. I used to play the pc version all day but now I play the xbox version all day. Does this make me a casual minecrafter?
Maybe if the game were still in 1.6 this point would be stronger, but honestly the xbox has so much new content since then it's not nearly as distinguishable fro m the pc as it used to be.
I do see what you mean by saying it's the casual version but personally I just disagree. Good thread, it should bring some interesting and hopefully civilized discussion.
This idiot is trying to compare apples to raisins. The 360 could never compete with the PC version because of hardware issues. Most of what he said has already been addressed... especially since it's already been stated that 4J is going their own way after the next couple of updates. If the OP bothered to read up on the game and the updates, then he'd have already figured out that this will never be the PC version... and most of the intelligent people purchased this game knowing that.

I'm not sorry to say, but I agree.
