I just created a kindgdom (for saftey reasons, why fill a valley with stuff when you can have it safely inside walls) and i was wjust wondering, how can i keep zombies and other creatures out without ugly torches everywhere around on the ground? not glowstone on the ground either it dosnt match the kingdoms color very much. i put up a few glowstone lamps on the street but they cant light up the WHOLE kingdom. any suggestions???

I've used netherrack for firepits, which is great if you don't use much wood. I've also used lava rivers... or lava encased in glass, but you run the risk of the glass breaking and flooding your kingdom.

i figured it out, i just dug 2 blocks deep and put torches and glass over them. works like a charm. now i have 1 more question. why wont vilaggers inhabit the house a made? i captured a villager in my kingdom, destroyed his door to his house at the village, then made a new house for him in my village. yes it it above ground. he just wont inhabit it???

If you don't want mobs to spawn, and you don't want torches to ugly everything up, use slabs. No mobs can spawn on slabs. The only problem is, you'll have to either dig out a layer of dirt, or build your house(s) one block higher. I built a huge arena, covered with glass and half slabs so it can spawn mobs during the day. The only reason the glass is there is to kind of make an ambiance (it seems to slightly reduce the light from glowstone in the roof). The half slabs prevent the mobs from spawning above it.

If you don't want to, then you're going to have to deal with Zombies and other hostile mobs.
