Does anybody know if there will be a certain limit of mobs the spawn eggs will spawn at a time?
What I mean is like the Snow Golems, you can only spawn 10 or so. My question is will there be a limit on the number of, say, cows we will be able to spawn with them?
There will always be a limit. As to the exact number that limit will be, nobody will know until 4J says something or the update comes out.
Spawn Eggs may not have a limit to what they can spawn unless 4J themselves puts one on them. I know on the PC you can pretty much do it forever. Another example of unlimited spawns are Spawners. They ignore the mob limits set on the world and chunks and just keep spawning mobs regardless.

This is what I was thinking but wasn't sure... thanks!
Jazz indeed. I assume cows and such will only be restricted by the passive mob cap in general, which I doubt will change. As for aggressive mobs, I have no clue what the limit is or will be. I'm interested to know the details as well. I hope there will be a way to turn off natural mob spawning, or at least that you will be able to spawn aggressive mobs under peaceful difficulty with eggs. Without this, my dreams of mob arenas and roguelike dungeon crawling will all go down the drain.

Yeah that'd be a nice feature, is it like that in the PC edition? I played it before but I don't have it myself so I never really tried building a map on it.

I'm honestly not too sure. I've seen mob arenas similar to what I've mentioned, but they very well could have been using mods. I know a lot of them definitely use mods, as I have noticed most of these arenas are well lit, without water or soul sand, yet the zombies and such take no damage.

Spawn Eggs cannot spawn hostile mobs on peaceful or during the day.

A server I used to play on on the PC version had a Mob Arena. They used mods to make their arena function. The monsters would spawn and if you could kill them all, a new round would start with different mobs, etc.
I've never seen a mob arena that doesn't use some sort of mods though I know it's entire possibly.

Some arenas by Hypixel use MCEdit to put blocks on the mobs heads so they don't catch on fire. Not sure about the others
I'd assume that the limit won't restict us to much... I mean, my breeding farms can take 100 or so animals freely moving all at once and the game still runs fine.
the only problem i see with this, will they bring better and more popular pc minecraft to the next xbox system. if they dont its because they wont go beyond a point with MCX360E and thats that or the new system cant handle much more then the 360. i think they will get far enugh with the 360 to do a good job but if they dont try to expand more when 720 comes out that would be a bummer.
I was under the impression that an aggro mob can spawn from an egg regardless of light level. Which would mean that you can light up your dungeon sufficiently to prevent natural spawning.
I wouln't think it would function in peaceful mode though.
This is true, but I would prefer the dungeon to be lit dimly. More ideal would be no light and the ability to carry a torch, but we don't have that. Anyway, my issue is not a big one, bit it is for the people who want to make large and open mob arenas with natural lighting. Nobody wants to fight their enemies while sluggishly stumbling around on soulsand or through water.
Light level does Not effect spawn eggs, you can have a very bright room and they will spawn from the egg, however if its sunlight zombies, and skeletons will immediately catch fire, if your doing an arena you will need to make sure it has a roof. Sunlight don't effect creepers or endermen. Spawning hostile mobs when the game is set to peaceful results in instant despawn.
With clever red stoning one can easily set up an arena without the need for mods, load up some dispensers with the spawn eggs and your good to go. The biggest issue with arenas is 'distributing' mobs. An arena i finished a few weeks ago is rendered almost useless. I manged to build a nice sorter, and weeded out creepers, sorted skeletons, zombies and spiders into separate rooms. and a nice 'holding' system as well.
Problem is that mobs linger in their cells, the arena isn't that big maybe 20x20 total counting the cell rooms, but mobs 'sight' distance and tracking on the Xbox is horrible to say none the least.
I've got plans to redo the arena and will add a new mob delivery system that will instead of using cells push them to a distribution center where they will swim up to different areas near the center.
