because of having to start new maps whenever there's an update i have kind of gotten out of glory building. like an 8000+ block obsidian pyramid in survival mode. i build a large base and then kind of look at starting a new map. what i want to do is build a city in survival after all the updates are out but until then it would be nice to have something harder than hard survival.
after i have armor weapons and a base then it seems to get too easy to build and explore. without changing the mechanics of the game i just want some beefed up mobs or something. maybe zombie herds that can break down walls or something. anyone else not satisfied with the difficulty
do you just play on hard or do you play "hardcore" (where you delete the world if you die)? I've taken to playing hardcore style and it does add to the tension a little bit.
Frankly, it's not that hard to survive in minecraft if you're even a little bit patient and careful. The big challenge now seems to be the inordinate number of ghasts in the nether. Since batting the fireballs back never actually works and killing them with arrows is mind-numbing, they've taken center stage as the most annoying mob.
no i haven't been playing "hardcore". it seems most of the time when i die (it's not that often) i'm playing too late or bored and just make a dumb mistake. with the new update the ghasts were a major issue at first. but placing my portal in a better location and having enchanted leather and having a stack of cobblestone to immediately build a defensive barrier has made entering the nether an easily survivable event. extensive exploration of the nether can be an issue but a good enchanted bow can take down ghast and if in trouble i can duck and cover till i heal a little.
Have you tried a 404-like challenge? The original 404 was based on a cave in a particular seed (named 404); but the rules and concept can be applied in different worlds. Just google "404 challenge" and you should get the basic idea, then look for a deep waterfall-type cave in any seed.
I kind of agree with you UpUp_Away95 because if you play just hard it's fairly easy to do everything but playing hardcore like what electricbooz said it would give it a little tension and a bit harder. Having daimonds just help you a lot on hard especially with armor. Anyways I agree with you UpUp_Away95.

I am a angel, I shall disperse all demons from you.
I may be a angel, but that doesn't mean I have evil in me.
I'm not like any other angels, I posses all powers you can imagine.

no i have not but just watched 40 minutes of utube on some others and looks neat. i like the above world too much to leave completely but was thinking about a couple of rules like one life and maybe no chest or i can not stay in the same place for more than 2 days. i ussually build a main base with around 400 chest so the no chest rule would make me critically think about every item i want to have. any other ideas?
You know I could say the same thing about easy mode not being easy enough....><
Don't get me wrong I can handle it on that mode, as there is hardly a difference yet.... And it is the only mode I enjoy playing on beyond just peaceful for just flat out building... Would be nice if both was improved upon. More things to make hard harder, and easy easier...:D

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Agreed hard is much too easy. I don't want to do "hardcore" because it doesn't make the game more difficult it just gives you 1 life so when you F up you're done. Enemies should be more challenging and there should be more of them, spawners should spawn more often, more fire/poison enemies, armor is too strong, and materials are very easy to find.
I want to have a reason to use all my best stuff and actually have use for my potions when I go exploring or decide to raid a tunnel or use the nether.

I'm current working on a single-chest challenge. That is, I can't just leave drops to despawn and I can't throw them away in the lava pit. I have to use everything I collect and keep all my stuff in just one chest. It's an exercise in inventory management and it is proving to be a bit of a challenge for me... I never thought I was a hoarder before now.

i started the no chest game and have to throw some stuff away because it was unavoidable to pick up. like killing a chicken and ending up with feathers. or killing a spider and getting eyes and string. i'm concentrating right now on upgrading to all diamond tools. i came acrss a lot of gold so im running gold armor and iron tools. i have considered allowing myself the use of existing chest on the map and just not move them
I agree. I'm on hardcore, and its WAY too easy. I got diamonds and emeralds on the third-fifth day (was a three-day mining trip). Plus, the mobs are easy as ****.
Why don't you set some rules for yourself? ie; No armour, or restricted armour. Stone swords only. No bow & arrows. Accomplish all outdoor activities after sunset, while returning to base at sunrise. Only collect ores from caves with surface entrances. No placing torches outside of your base... I don't know, get creative? Or do a challenge like Away suggested.

While you are in the wrong section, I can concur with that.
I have actually acquired Diamonds on Day 1 before, and could probably reach the End by day 10 with some luck....
I like the idea of a 1 chest challenge. I must admit, It is easy no matter the difficulty. Cant wait for the end though, My goal will be beating it within 5 hrs of a new map. I'm sure it will be easy though, After all it is minecraft!
the no armor ideas are interesting but i like that part of the game. and i lik eupgrading to diamond sword. i want a challenge but also want to be able to use the different aspects of the game.
Anyway, my two sense, and my experience with minecraft isn't nearly as vast as most, a few months messin' about on the computer and the past 3 weeks or so of grindin on the 360 edition (which I love...the controller is such a comfortable platform to veg some minecraft with)
I definitely agree its to easy, part of that has to do with the size of the maps I think. I think it makes everything to available. The swamp and desert and snow and such can easily be within a quick jaunt of each other, and the ore isn't so difficult to come by.
I like the idea of all these challenges, and I frequently have done so with other games in the past. Role-playing in a sense, limiting my characters personality, ie. my skyrim character only killed goats when he was a werewolf, and the only rabbits he killed were accidents via explosions or the like, and I held appropriate funerals for them.
Buuuut, with a bit of effort there is great potential in minecraft. Up the difficulty with a new surface mob or 2, maybe instead of a village an 'enemy' castle could spawn that was 'indestructable' to mining etc., definitely make the mining aspect a little more of a necessity...after all it is MINEcraft, as is, finding a cave, following it down and wandering about is enough to find all that you need, often in 1-2 trips.
The nether is cool, and I've never experienced the end, but they do seem somewhat limited.
Rambling just a little longer I will say this, its a fan-ing tastic feeling playing survival and commin' 'home' at night seein' what ever pimp ass digs you've got yourself all lit up, and I'm not even mad good at building, I take a 'pure' approach and often try to adapt my castles and the like.
tl:dr, playing some minecraft is awesome, but it can get more awesome....which is an awesome prospect.

The one-chest challenge actually plays the toughest in Peaceful. If you're not really careful about what you do, your chest quickly starts getting overrun with food items you can't eat, you can't put back into the world, and you can't throw them away either. When you get into Hard mode, maintaining your hunger bar helps keep the amount of food items in your chest to a minimum, freeing up slots for other useful stuff. I'm finding it also forces you to get out into the world and come up with ideas for building in order to keep putting your cobblestone back into the environment rather than storing it up in a bunch of chests.

Ranked for what, exactly?
Anyone can mine in Hard mode, few can hunt that much....
(And I'm in the 60s in Normal, so meh.)
Stay fluffy~
