So, I was at my spider spwner, leasurly wacking some arachnids, then needed to place some things into the chest next to me. So I turn around and put some webs away, turn back. . . and there's an Endermen in my dungeon!
Now, I was still trying to wack the spiders, and I thought I'd just leave the flower giving tall guy alone, he wasn't harming me at the end of the day. After a while, he was just getting in the way. I'm trying to hit spiders, but was soooo close to hitting him.
I thought I'd lower the roof. That way he'll teleport out and not bother me again. So I place a torch so that I could lower away in peace. (The dungeon is a 'standard' 4 high room) I start by placing a roof at block height 3, so there were two empty blocks, then a roof, then another empty 1 block space. (Get me?) Anyway. There only two blocks left to place into the roof. . . this is where the Endermens head is.
Now, I needed to get rid of him, so I figured that if Ihit him, he'll teleport away, possibly to above ground level.
He Didn't.
I hit him maybe 3 times with my stone sword (Didn't want to waste my Diamond one on some spiders). He screamed each time I hit him, but never once teleported away!
Is it a well known fact that 'trapped' Enderbudies don't teleport. . . or was this one just a fluke?
Moral of the story - Never look a gift ender pearl in the mouth! Endermen don't always teleport away when I hit them either - even out in the open... so, I figure "ours is not to wonder why..." just keep slashing and reap the reward.

LOL. I thought that they always teleported away though. . . they always did on me. Was one of them really strange occurances.

Didn't have a bucket on me at the time. I only ever take one when exploring new caverns etc. .
they do teleport away. and the other guy probably had a bug where they dont. i love reaping endermen. they always run. i think you really did capture it.

let us know how long he stays there. i have found that most of the time they do NOT teleport away even in the open IF i am hunting with dogs. 2 or more dogs biting at the enderman and me (even punching with fist) and the enderman does not teleport away. Sooooo maybe the small impact of hitting his/her head on the ceiling was keeping them there?????
Could have been just a bug. I would love to see some video of this but not everyone (including myself) can just capture video on a whim. You got lucky this time....=)
