I believe, in older versions, all mob spawners had the appearance of a pig sprite instead of the intended mob. It seems to be nothing other than a graphical glitch. But yes, this was fixed, I'm guessing that patch didn't fix spawners from worlds prior to its release.
Yup, the good ol' excitement of not knowing what would pop out if you found one in Peaceful....
... and of destroying a number of them in Peaceful thinking that the spawning of pigs in the overworld was somehow going to be decreased... noisy swine.
yeah i remember when all my spawners were pigs then having zombies pop out

In fact, this was one of the first times I found a dungeon, which was hidden right inside a mountain I was mining on (above ground) in one of my first games.
As Minecraft is notorious for not explaining much in-game, this scene had me very bewildered. And confused.
"Ok so some skeletons have a small rotating PIG in a cage?!! What does this MEAN?!"
EDIT:
Afterthought: I have never since found a dungeon above sealevel. Odd.

I have never seen a dungeon with a Cobblestone roof that wasn't put there by the player....
No? I have. Did you know that you can mine all the mossy stone, and re-add in cobble stone, and later it'll become mossy stone? At least that's how it is in the PC version, never really tried in the xbox version.
Hmm that would be really unlikely for performance reasons.. Though if they applied a combo of the grass code and the mushroom code, it'd work.
I've wondered about and tested more insane things.. I once tore down a dungeon and then rebuilt it exactly in a new spot (same z-level) to see if it would 'spawn' a new mob spawner. It didn't occur to me that if the old dungeon can't regrow a spawner then why would a rebuilt one?
Still I had friends that were 'terrified' of the rebuilt dungeon so close to town and insisted it be demolished. The same friends made me build a 'safe room' for the nether portal in case things started coming through it. ;p

Doubt it works. I have replaced the mossy cobblestone with regular cobblestone at several dungeons since the Xbox version came out. Not one has ever produced a single block of additional mossy cobblestone.

They're usually active mob spawner trap sites, so I do go into them periodically (for as long as I keep the world, that is). I tend to go through a lot of survival worlds, though - i.e. delete them and start over in new ones. How long then does it normally take in terms of Minecraft days? (or are you thinking about a PC mod? - http://www.planetminecraft.com/mod/mossy-cobblestone-mod/)
Can't remember which TU this seed was made...
