Incidentally, I'm a veg in RL, but thats not why I'm going to be one on MC. It seems like it would add more of a challenge to gamneplay. I't would make farming more necessary, instead of just killing a bunch of cows and throwing the meat in a furnace.
Also, I feel bad about killing those cute animals in the same fashion which I send the undead legions back to their maker.
Des anyone else self-impose restrictions on their character to enhance gameplay/RP?

Why would I run around killing cows and pigs when I can carry around stacks of melon slices? I plant a garden of melons. Go through one row of them once and gather the slices. Do my thing. When I run low, go get another row of melons. Rinse and repeat.

I usually end up turning most of my melons into glistering melons. And I may be wrong, but meat seems to rechage the food meter a lot more than veggies
As long as your not a holier-than-thou veg who keeps complaining and throwing bread at me while i'm trying to eat the flesh and wear the skin of my victims then i am cool with it.... lol. I did once temporarily impose a leather only armor rule when I was playing a cannibal. I've also played with MC vegs and it was fine when they could stop talking about it.
Personally I think these kinds of self imposed rules and goals are what makes the game in the long term. Otherwise I would have been "done" with it long ago. Next I was considering doing a vampire style survival map where I would only allow myself outside after dark.

Once I get melons, I've never needed to carry anything else. Yes meat recovers more hunger, but as I said... melons are a constant food source readily available and fulfill exactly one bar of hunger. I don't like eating food when it provides more hunger than I need. Plus you can grow melons wherever you plan on setting up temporary camp. On one world, I have a melon patch at home, and one by each mob spawn farm. On my new map, I have one by our village and one at my home. I'll probably build one at another village I plan on creating, as well. Plus melon gardens are hands free once you get one going. Unless I need something from a peaceful mob, I usually don't go after them.
That's a good way to make it more challenging. I once made myself a rule that I could only eat cake and cookie and it made life a bit more interesting.
But I'd like to ask OP a question; How do vegetarians get their proteins IRL? And Is it really that fun just eating this and that but not that (do you ever have cravings)?

I'm not a vegetarian in Minecraft since I'm finding killing animals a great source of XP for enchanting. I do, however, add in different restrictions in some of the world's I play in to change things up a bit. Currently, in one world, I'm doing a "one-chest challenge." I'm not allowed to waste anything by letting it despawn or throwing in a lava bin, but I'm only allowed to have 1 double chest; and I'm still doing all the normal builds - home base, rail system, upgrading a pair of villages. mob spawners traps, etc. I never thought of myself as a hoarder before, but keeping things down to just 1 chest has not been as easy as it sounds.

That is actually a bad way to eat in Minecraft.
There is a second hunger bar that is hidden from the player. It is the saturation bar. Say you are only missing one hunger point. If you eat a melon slice, you filled your hunger bar, but that only provides 1.2 points of saturation to your hunger. That means you are going to need to eat again really soon. Steak on the other hand fills 12.8 points of saturation. If you eat Steak when you only have 1 hunger missing, your saturation goes way up meaning that it will take longer for your hunger to start depleting again.

... and that's immaterial because as I said, I always make sure I have enough on hand. Whether I oversaturate or undersaturate, I have enough to stay alive... or as I said, I can convert them to seeds and grow more.

It's not that hard with supplements/vitamins. I dont really take much, and I'm relatively healthy, supposedly. I don't have to deal with cravings because I was actually raised vegetarian. Hippie parents. Decided to stick with it because I like animals and don't like the way the meat industry treats animals sometimes. Figured I was already a vegetarian and happy, might as well stick with it.
Ive had some meat before. It was okay, nothing I couldnt live without. I ordered a veggie burger the other day and Im pretty sure they gave me a turkey burger. I ate most of it.
Soy isnt really good for you, I try to minimize my intake
I'm mostly a vegetarian in Minecraft. I'll occasionally eat meat when the animal died of natural causes, like falling off a cliff or walking into a cactus too many times, but I prefer to just put it in a furnace and give it to one of my meat-eating friends the next time they log in. I never kill animals intentionally. They're just too cute. XD
I guess I never really thought about it (being a veg, that is). Id farm more if there was more to farm, i.e. beans, corn, bannanas, mayb even
nuts! Right now i do a little of both but i do like the idea's that 3mpureE put down! Also the night time idea too.....I may have to change things up!
I generally like to keep bread and melons in my inventory, it's easily available for me since I farm a lot in my worlds.
(I'm a selective vegetarian in rl, btw) Cows and chickens are for my milk and eggs to make cake
I really wish we could use pumpkins for pumpkin pie or something!!
This topic somewhat applies to my Apple Tree idea. Taking seeds from apples, planting them, making apple trees...
However, I can't get into that because my post might get removed. Anyways, this is a really good idea, but I'd do it if I wanted a challenge. But the saturation bar is not a myth, so be aware of that. Another thing: What about fish? I thought vegetarians could eat fish. Sorry if I'm wrong, but I swore I heard that somewhere. Back on topic, you're going to have to start a farm pretty gosh-darn early if you do this. Either that, or find a village. Still, this idea is interesting, and I'm planning on doing it as well.

I hope all of those will be available on the xbox soon ...
