put a sign up saying 'DONT DIG HERE' then put lava under the block below it
Place your chest,
Surround it in lava 2 blocks in each direction... and make it 2 blocks deep.
Place sand or gravel 3 blocks above the lava.
Listen to the screams of people falling thru your floor.
The only safe place is your inventory, Most minecrafters know where to find hidden goodies...
not my friends i can hide it in plain sight and they wont see it lol

I usually go sticky piston crazy and encase it in Obsidian. or simply put chests under your floorboards/in the walls. If you make an open door, place a painting to the bottom left block over and over until a painting comes up that covers the whole door. It has to stay open, but its a hidden door.

Please Sub to the YouTube,
Also, I'm soon going to start 'World 4' view my World 3 via my YouTube. Best Survival Map you will EVER See.
In any RP server I'm in, I leave "bait" chests in the open and bury everything else either under the floor or somewhere nearby.
Most people do not think to dig out the floor--especially in a big home--and will usually assume what's seen is all there is.
- 4 lava blocks over trap doors. u jump into the lava held up by the doors and fall through into a well several blocks lower then exit using a portal and reenter the above world from another location.
- chest in the nether in secret room under netherrack
- entrance 10 blocks + under water no lighting up the entrance or u can see it from the surface.
- used glowstone ceiling over a mob spawner with piston driven blocks to shut the light off. the mobs act as security guards for your goodies.
- i have used solid obsidian rooms with secret entrances in a house but in minecraft it's just to obvious to hide stuff in your house and once someone finds obsidian from digging it's just a matter of time before they get in.
No, I encase it in obsidian, as in the entire room, encased in obsidian, except the one entrance? Everyone knows Pistons can't move obsidian.
On a side note, why not glitch your chest inside of a block?
you can glitch your chest?

I think the painting idea is not so good, if you want a suuper seecret room--since you can just walk tight into it.
I would create a sublevel with access by ladders, which is hidden by an inconspicuos block in the main base/house.
Then in the sublevel, go all out and make a storage area
Sometimes, some random blocks glitch and you can see thru the world, so depending on your level of worry...
If you're really really really worried, find a big pit of lava and put your storage/chests underneath lava where it is protected from being "xrayed" by glitched blocks.
Is keeping the items in your inventory not an option?

Depends on where I am located, but I'll often build a 2x2 jeb door into a wall of my bedroom, and trigger it with a wooden pressure plate behind a picture.
Throw an item through wall, hit pressure plate, door opens, walk in, and pick up item on other side to close door behind you. My only complaint is that pistons are pretty easy to hear if anyone is near by, so you need to make sure nobody is within earshot.
I typically place chests in the bedroom and may leave one diamond and a few iron ingots, some wood / coal and a few lower grade tools. Make it believable that this is all of your inventory. If you have 2 double chests of cobble stone and dirt, it is unlikely you don't have any iron or coal.

In your house create a basement, in the basement store some items and put a switch/plate to a hidden room, in that hidden room put some goodies to through them off. But have a switch that opens a room that has a switch that opens a secret door hidden somewhere on your property. Dig all the way down and build a secret room out of obsidian on bedrock. Cover the outside of the room in lava.
Most people won't find all the correct switches and if they did it should be doubtful that they find your hidden entrance.
If people are randomly mining the will not go near your room as the lava is a wonderful detourant

This is the exact mechanism I am talking about. It does work on mcxbe.
