Glass. You may place glass directly above a rail on a incline or curve and it will not interfere with the track or cart. As glass will not "cut" the incline track.
Edit: Just realized this is the Xbox version. So I'm not sure if this still applies. Sry
No I havn't tried pistons will do later, but I have tried glass going down and it does stop the cart. I know it works for the PC which is why i assumed it would work on the xbox, maybe next update will fix that, i dunno.
I don't think so 4J has gone silent, and usually when that happens it ain't very long before they make some announcement. They've already exposed that the next update will be more then just 'the end', and if trends follow suit I bet next week they will start dropping hints at whats in the next version and start answering some questions from various tweets too them, maybe sooner. I figure a month at most, give or take a week.
I also suggest testing Chests (cheaper than pistons) and shouldn't hurt you. Once again tested on PC. I really need to get the xbox version to test with.

Eventually, someone will, utterly by accident, click my reputation up.
I place a 3 wide wooden platform down and place my rails on the center block, then come back and put fences down both sides. It's effective but the cost in wood is pretty high. It does look nice though.
If anyone wanted to use this strategy in the netherworld, I would just suggest raiding as much nether fence as you can from the fortress, and using cobblestone slabs. seems like it would work like a charm. take a bit of time, but would be worth it to keep your tracks clear!
