Ok I've played all the versions of Minecraft, and on the PC, the compass points to your spawn. But on the Xbox my compass is not only NOT pointing to my spawn, instead it's pointing east. So I have to ask what is it pointing to, since it is not functioning like a Minecraft compass and pointing to spawn, or functioning like a real world compass and pointing north?
According to this article the compass in Xbox has a bug where it won't point to your spawn point after you've went to the Nether. Supposed to be fixed with an update anytime.
You mean your bed you slept in? if that is the case then it should not be pointing to that at all.
Original spawn: Where you start out at in the world when you boot it up. That is where it should be pointing...O_o
Not sure why your compass is not pointing to original spawn. could be a glitched compass, or the original spawn could have been arbitrarily changed with the terrain generation. That is if it is an old map. Confused on this one...><

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Well I had been to the nether recently, but at the same time I've been to bed more recently than that. But it still points east, unless that is where the original spawn point was, I don't know what gives.

As Tamorr said, it won't point to where you've last slept... only to your original spawn. Since you don't know where that was, it could well be east of where you are. One way to check is to travel to the east side of your world and see where it points then. If it still points east (i.e. off the edge of the map), you'll know it's a glitch.
After logging out and back in it now points south. I was almost positive back on pc 1.0.0 I had been using the compass to guide me back home, and also pretty sure my home was not near the world spawn since I didn't like that location.
I haven't used the compass for the compass function on the Xbox before today since I just used them to make maps right away, but I have to say if it indeed only points to the world spawn it is very worthless by itself.
..IF it points east but is not the edge of the map, then reload your seed. . . a new world. . . and you'll know exactly where your original spawn point is. If you don't remember that is.

The compass in Minecraft has never pointed anywhere other than your original spawn point when you started the world. It has been that way since the compass was added to Minecraft.
The compass pointing only to the world spawn is anything but pointless. Are real world compasses pointless because they only point at the north pole? No, because we use that to judge what direction is what, and where things are in relation to the north pole. Same can be done with a Minecraft compass.

Agree... fairly useless, IMO... but for different reasons. The world is small so I find I can orient myself pretty well without one. If I do have an issue, I can just use the map provided at spawn. I do craft a compass every now and then... but only so I can either craft a new map (if I dropped mine) or craft a map also in the nether so I can determine coordinates for planning the locations for multiple portals.

... or you can walk around until if just flips direction. Eventually, you just narrow right in on it.

The compass on my world points to my original spawn like the compass is supposed to.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
"Fix for Compass not pointing to the original spawn point after having been in The Nether." from the bugfix notes.
