Using a silk touch pickaxe can help solve the inventory issue with the ores that drop multiples of items. You can then use a fortune pickaxe on them when you get home. It does mean, however, mining them twice if you want to use the drops. However, the silk touch pickaxe also works on coal and redstone, unlike the crafting table solution since we don't currently have redstone blocks and I don't think even the PC has coal blocks.
A burnable coal block.... 9x the power and 9x the fuel. of course that would be kind of a waste. would be nice if they just did an 8 = block on that one and still make it usable in the furnace... That way would be a stack per block...lol
Anyway coal block would be an interesting idea...

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.

Plus, I really wouldn't mind a nice solid black block for building (other than wool). The purple in obsidian just isn't all that attractive with most of the other blocks.
Lapis Lazuli IN REAL LIFE is used as a dye, and when mined is broken down to little shreds of paper like dye. That's why it's the way it is.
Diamond when mined is tiny little pieces of rock, so that's why what it is.
Redstone, isn't real.
BUTTER and Iron are mined as an ore, then they must be melted down and shaped. In this case, the common ingot.
Guess that makes sense. Also, you mispelled something, so I fixed it.
... Iron and Gold are already reasonably common and pretty important to the gameplay, so allowing them to be mined in multiple with the fortune enchant (which is probably what would happen if they did not drop the ore) would be overpowered.
Respectfully, I have to disagree with you on one point. Gold and diamonds occure at nearly the same but gold is available up to level 30 making it "slightly" easier to find. However since adding the fortune enchantment, diamonds are almost cheap. I have chests of redstone, coal and nearly 200 diamonds but not nearly enough gold to complete my 8 line rail system. I just got returned from a strip mining expidition and have 30% more diamonds than gold, using a furtune 3 pickax.
I've actually started scattering chest of them +diamond tools around my world to encourage online frends to explore the rest of the map.
Admitedly most players don't have my excessive lust for yellow metal, and yes I know I could use two detector rails instead of powered rails. It's just easier. What I'd really like is a new enchantment :Midus Touch ". It can be as hard to get as silk touch, that would be fine. it would increase gold yield, possibly by dropping mining nugets instead of ore. That would also make it a bit of a burdon to have to process the nugets into gold at a crafting table and make you carry around yet another specialized tool.

Please actually read posts before responding, so you don't end up looking stewped.
Personally I would like to see Gold and Iron blocks drop Gold/Iron ore, not like it currently does, but ores kinda shaped like a lapis luzil after it is broken, you would still have to put the ores in the furance to turn it into gold/iron bars, but that way when the block breaks you could get multiple ores. Not such a big deal for Iron so much, but with the little amount of gold there is(I know you can harvest the guys in the nether, but that takes forever) it would be nice to be able to acquire so much more gold, especially so I can get a lot more power rails

My 2 cents.
I like the way you think!

Just redstone.
