This isn't going to be a thread about what food you'd like to see in MCXBLA, but merely to discuss what we have.
I was thinking about it last night while playing. I find myself now 'harvesting' pigs, more than anything else. When we had the update that added melon seeds and what not, I was trying to create a full farm, with every type of 'food', but now I think it's pointless. Now I only plant a few seeds to breed my pigs.
What we have:
Bread: Restores 2.5(?) hearts. They're ok, but you have to spend time harvesting wheat to make them. Melon: Restores 1 heart. I find these completely useless. The time you spend eating one, you may as well have used something else. Apples: Restores 2(?) hearts. Useful food to begin with as they fall from tree's when you get wood. Pork: Restores 4 hearts. Easy to kill and restores a decent amount. Beef: Restores 4 hearts. Does the same as pork, but I find cows take more to kill. Plus the leather is somewhat useless at the moment. Cake: Never used them tbh. I find it too much effort to make. Lol Cookie: Again, never used them. Could be because we don't have cocao beans yet. (Y'know what I mean)
I've probably missed some off, but I'm a bit hung over this morning. Lol
Anyhow. What does everyone else tend to eat. Do you choose easy foods like pork or beef, or do you like to put some effort into your MC'Cuisine? (Lol a new McDonalds dish)
Melons can be nice while fighting because you don't have to wait until your down more than 1 hunger point to eat. You can keep your hunger bar full relatively easy.
Mushroom soup to me is most handy because I have mooshrooms somehow even though I have no mushroom biome but yeah with the mooshrooms I can just run past one of with a bowl eat/drink it then just get more.
you must have an old map... In which case you actually do have a mooshroom biome, just not the look of it. I have one on my 1.7.3 map, in a select area as they is the only place a red cow will spawn. If you recreated your world with your seed you will see what everything would look like now in the current version, biomes included.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Completely forgot about mushroom stew. Lol (Again, never used it)
I suppose melons could be useful. I just find that it takes too long to eat it just to get 1 heart . . . sorry, hunger thing. Just realised I typed my OP wrong. . . HUNGER not HEARTS.
Think of it this way: It takes like 2-3 seconds to eat something. And you move really slow when eating. If you're in need of food, say you have 4 hunger missing. It'd take almost 10 seconds to replenish your hunger with melons, rather than 3 seconds with pork/beef. If you're underground, this could be this difference between life and creeper bait (Death).
Also, with regards to wheat farms being on of the first things to be built on survival. I have ever done this. Walking mobs (fast food) has always been my first choice.
I find melon the most useful. It's easier to grow than wheat and you don't have to craft the food after you harvest it. Plus, I like to eat frequently anyway (that is, I rarely let my hunger deplete more than one drumstick anyway); just to make sure that my hearts are always replenishing as fast as they can. The food I seem to have the most of, though, is steak. I have lots and lots of cows in my world it seems and not quite so many pigs. I have enough leather sitting around that I could now wear a different set of leather armor every Minecraft day for a IRL month (lol).
I find eating tedious at times. Kind of like waiting for crops to grow. (Someone's going to mention bonemeal, I can just feel it).
Do you really wear leather armor though? I find it useless. Especially when you get enough Iron for Iron armor.
i actually think that leather armor is one of the best for a good reason
the enchantment tables after you hit say lvl 40? and have an enchantment table and a brand new set of leather armor enchant each piece of the set with a lvl 10 enchantment i did that my armor feels like its stronger than iron ive survived COUNTLESS creeper blasts (dark cave mining buddy shows up -----> BOOM im still alive Blast Protection 2) skeletons do almost nothing to me (Projectile Protection 3 on the chestplate) falling (from obliviousness) depending on fall 1 to 4 armor dmg (EXTREMELY long fall) Feather Falling 3
and lastly i take long uderwater swims due to a lucky respiration enchantment
All in all enchanted leather armor can be the best in the game (unless you got enchanted diamond armor of course or frankly just diamond armor.

I do wear it early on in the game. When it's fresh and new, it does lessen the damage done by a little bit; and as a result I have walked away from a creeper blowing up in my face when it probably would have been a fatal blow otherwise. In other words, it's definitely better than nothing... and beats just throwing the leather in a lava pit.
Wouldn't you rather save all that XP for Iron armor? I mean, by the time you get all that XP, you'd have a fair bit of Iron anyway right? From all the mining etc?
Diamond armor is by far the best because of how long it lasts. Unless you play PvP or are a total klutz, diamond armor could last weeks. I hate spending enchanting levels on something that I feel is just going to break within the foreseeable future.
I agree. I don't ever enchant my leather armor. I usually can't enchant anything yet at that point anyway because I probably haven't found the diamonds that I would need to build the enchantment table yet. As a rule of thumb, I think it is always best to enchant the 'best" item you can. Diamond if you have it, iron if you don't. Wearing leather armor, however, does beat out not wearing anything. Some people believe it doesn't give any protection at all... but it does offer some protection It just wears out very quickly.

Some people just don't use Iron for armor. I know I don't.
I actually don't use armor at all in Minecraft. I find it's a waste of valuable resource that can be used for other things.

Lol'd at the MC'Cusine.
I like to get food in different ways, I have an automated Melon farm (which you can read about in my profile page), wheat farms, and I breed cows, pigs and chickens.
But it's all useless. I always end up getting some mushroom stew from my Mooshroom.
Unless you use leather, which does not have any other purpose (yet)
I rarely even use Leather Armor.
Granted it's not a valuable resource but I usually stuff it in a chest or throw it in lava. If 4J ever adds the crafting recipe that requires leather or item frames, then I'll value leather. Until then, it means nothing to me lol

It's not a good armor at all, but it's better than wearing nothing.
if you breed cows like I do, you'll eventually find your chests fllled up with leather, and at least you'll have something to do with it.

It is better than nothing, but I hardly die as it is. While I do farm cows, I don't mass farm them. I only breed them when I begin to run low on food. If I ever become overburdened with leather, I'll just dumb it in the trash, aka lava.
I used to eat Melons, but I realized how low the saturation is, and it became bothersome to constantly eat.
I stick with Pork or Steak because I have stacks and stacks of it from the animals that keep spawning....
Granted I do get low health with less than 4 hunger missing, but I get by. I'll eat a +4 with only 3 missing or eat if I'm at 2.5 hearts or less regardless.
And no, no armour for me either...even though I have a full suit of legit 30 Enchanted Diamond Armour in my room.
(It's too pretty!)

I don't even breed cows and I have a good 5 stacks of it just sitting there.
I still tend to not use it. It's a mixture of laziness and not caring.

Explains a lot.
