My little brother lives with me and we have an xbox 360. On his account, he has xbox live gold so he can play online with others on minecraft. How do we play 2player spitscreen while hes playing an online match?

Sign him in as the First Player. Sign yourself in as a Guest of his profile (your gamertag should then be the same as his, but with a 1 in brackets after it). Have him open or enter a world. Press Start on your controller to join his game.
Like UpUpAway said, it's very easy. The account with Xbox LIVE Gold must sign in first, then with your second controller, press start and choose the Guest account.
But remember, Minecraft Split-screen DOES NOT WORK in regular SD TVs, you must play on a LCD/LED TV in order to enable split-screen.
